Coming from a huge Hopkins fan ; I believe this.

I honestly believe that regardless of how much longer he fights, or who he fights ; we'll never see Hopkins put on another performance like that ever again.

His motivation for that fight was ungodly, even for his own standards. We'll never see another 43 year old man fight like that ever again.

    I truly believe that.

That's a very touching story, and I think that the media as much as they want to give light to negativity like pre-fight hype "I will never lose to a white boy" I never seen HBO or ESPN cover this story...I mean honestly how many people are gonna read that Yahoo story? I was surprised i didn't get bashed from you guys for posting old stories...I see not even some hardcore boxing fans knew about this story, and i only read this story last year, couple days after he beat Pavlik i found it in the sweet science dot com.

The media should focus on the good things that people do too, as hard as they focus the negative things of people. Afterall, guys like Hopkins, Mayorga, Mayweather, Tarver etc they are just in character when they are in camera...by no means they are actually bad people.
    Once again, I agree.

I knew about this story many, many months ago, and it was posted here on a few occasions.

But it's still a genuinely touching story no matter how old it is, and one that everybody here needs to read.

Unfortunately there are still many others who've never heard of it.

Champion Hopkins Trying to Change Young Lives

He says he will "execute" that mission by building playgrounds and recreation centers at schools throughout Philadelphia.

His first project is the Charles Henry Elementary School.

The young students at Charles Henry Elementary School love Hopkins, and that feeling is mutual.

Hopkins used funds from his foundation to build a $60,000 playground on a vacant lot next to the school.

The gift comes with important words of guidance.

"When you have something, you learn to take care of it. So when you learn to take care of it, you'll honor it and treasure it. It's respect," said Hopkins.

Hopkins established the Bernard and Shirley Hopkins Make A Way Foundation last year in honor of his late mother.

Its mission is to raise awareness and money to help "make a way" for Philadelphia's underprivileged youth.

"I understand that the focus has to be on the youth because if we don't focus on youth we have no future. I believe that very strongly," he said.

Hopkins was a student at Charles Henry Elementary for 5 years.

Flanked by Jan Cairone, his health and physical education teacher, and Mr. "V", his Latin teacher, Hopkins was reminded how far he has come from his childhood.

"I was once a guy that didn't care about anyone else's feelings. Didn't respect authority. Didn't understand what was right for me, and didn't want to understand it," he said.

His feelings changed after spending a lot of time in detention centers and even Graterford Prison. Since then, Hopkins discovered boxing and discipline, and the joy of giving back.

"Before I leave Henry school, I want to make sure they at least have 30 to 40 brand new laptop, high state-of-the-art computers," he said.

After he supplies the Charles Henry School with computers, he plans to go to North Philadelphia, and build a playground at the William **** Elementary School across the street from the Raymond Rosen Housing Project.

There are many other articles you can find on the net as well. Not too mention, maybe more importantly he fought for boxer's rights throughout his career, "Becoming an outspoken advocate for fighters' rights, Hopkins took every opportunity to try to right the wrongs committed against boxers, or at least make people aware of them. He even testified before Congress in support of the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act, making many enemies within the boxing industry" (HBO).

          Great stuff.

Hopkins still manages to draw a ****load of hate from critics but I doubt any of them have truly read any of this, nor the original story posted in here.

Lol you're a funny guy, you know that? That was obviously towards Floyd. But anyways this is a positive thread showing the good side of a man many people see as a bad guy.

I'm a floyd fan, always have been, not a hater. I've never once rooted against him, he's the absolute best. With that said, lots of the stuff he does he does for publicity. And there is nothing wrong with that. I just pointed out that hopkins does a lot of stuff behind the cameras and not for publicity (not saying floyd doesn't either but that was one of the cases he clearly used to help his own personal perception).

So again, no dissing in my words comrade
