If the opponent is in a bordering weight class, I’m not a fan of the catchweight

Had Sergio and Floyd fought for the middleweight title I could have lived with a 157 pound catchweight

This. There were quite a few people who thought Tarver won their first fight. And that was BEFORE the Ruiz fight. Roy was just getting old in a style that depends on reflexes. Roy was also low 190s and tried to say the scale was bad and he was really 200... but Ruiz's weight wasnt 10 pounds off.

Roys came up with that excuse that he had to lose 25 pounds of muscle which is all bull**** his actual weight really didnt change and Ruiz was handpicked for the style match up to grab a belt.

Its still a 20lb swing for Jones I don't think it was a smart move to go back down as quick as he did, once a fighter raises his weight after years of keeping it down its very hard to go back again, its like all the talk of Manny going back to 135, it never happened and Id bet money on it hurting him a lot after being 150 fight night for a few years.

It wasn’t a 20 pound swing. He was 194 against Ruiz and he was 188 in the ring against Tarver. That’s six pounds.

Yes, but HBO did pre ring walk weigh ins. Roy rehydrated to 188. Tarver to 189 IIRC.

Its still 20lbs difference between the two fights that he had to have on in one and then have off in the other, and we don't know how much of that was muscle or fluids even 6/7 pound of muscle is quite a bit on an athlete, I don't think it was a smart move by Jones that's all Im saying, I don't know enough of the details of what he bulked up for Ruiz and what he had to lose for Tarver I just know it can mess you up coming back down to quickly, and Roy was a really a MW so even 175 is above his best, he just played around with weights too much I feel.

i dont like catchweights either weight divisions are weight divisions for a reason
but what i really dont like is rehydration clauses if a fighter can make weight on time they should be able to rehydrate to as much as they want
