Comments Thread For: Marlon Tapales: I Want Naoya Inoue, I Want To Prove To Myself That I'm a Champion

It appears likely that Naoya Inoue is heading in the direction of an undisputed fight in the fall. On Tuesday night in Tokyo, Inoue moved up to the super bantamweight division and picked up an eight round knockout over unbeaten Stephen Fulton to capture the WBO, WBC world titles.

Credit to Tapales for watching that performance and still wanting a piece of the action. Maybe he just wants the paycheck. He was supposed to defend his WBO bantamweight against the younger Inoue in 2016, but Takuma had to pull out with a fractured hand. Now he's getting the big bro... He looked very sharp against Akhmadaliev, who can crack. But I can't say I was expecting that level of domination from Inoue.

Wondering why Inoue did not disengage when Fulton touched canvas. He hit Fulton after that.
Not that it would have changed the outcome but refree should have deducted a point from Inoue

Kudos to Tapales for being there, coming in the ring, and what he said.

Even more credit to Inoue and Tapales, and everyone involved, for setting up the unification fight in real time.

Why should the referee have deducted a point? It's his job to separate the fighters in the case of a knockdown. It's not up to a fighter to make a split second judgement on wether or not Fulton's glove touched in the heat of the moment. Ref ****ed up.

Why not just DQ Ray Mercer because the ref took too long to save Tommy Morrison>?

Those exchanges happen so quickly that great finishers like Inoue would never look to disengage. Even from Falu's standpoint (I think he did a great job), it was hard to see if Fulton had actually touched the canvas or not. Again, these moments happen so quickly that it's hard for a ref to step in or a fighter to disengage

This is what boxing should be like.

But now we have Crawford and Spence that decided to fight each other after like 5 years being in the same division and it is like, wow.
