I don’t think Calzaghe was ever #1p4p, and Spence’s record is not what Joe’s was. Heavyweights are an exceptional division and don’t really belong in P4P arguments. Fury talked about this a few years ago in an interview which is surely still online. In saying that, The fact Usyk was undisputed at cruiser and is now unified at HW is a strong argument in his favour.
And yes, testing yourself in higher weights is part of p4p. So is the ‘eye test’’, ko ratio, titles and longevity. That’s why GGG was up there but was never the guy. Inoue is building that legacy, Bud has that in his record too. Spence can do it but hasn’t yet. And yes, it counts.

Your argument is compelling and I can see a case for it, however, it’s difficult to imagine a scenario where Spence beats Crawford AND then defend say 15 times against all the top ranked guys at 147 and then retire for me to say he’s not an ATG.
