Oscar De La Hoya believes Canelo Alvarez is in a lose-lose situation in his upcoming fight in the fall. Alvarez, the undisputed 168-pound champion from Mexico, surprised the boxing world earlier this month when he announced that the first fight in his new multi-bout deal with Premier Boxing Champions would come against the undisputed champion in the 154-pound division: Jermell Charlo. Oscar actually had a point. If he does win he beat a fighter coming up two weight classes, if he loses he loses to a fighter coming up two weight classes. The only way he comes out clean here is if he destroys Charlo and I actually don’t see that happening, especially if Charlo puts on 10+ lbs of rock solid weight. Now granted Charlo should be on the p4p list himself and highly ranked, but that still doesn’t negate the fact that Canelo has won a championship as high as light heavyweight

There really is nothing more than a paycheck to be gained by Canelo. No titles when he beats Charlo and no prestige in beating a 154 pound overrated fighter.
