    or will he have to beat Mayweather?

    No. He would have to beat Mayweather too. Even then he probably wouldn't be considered because he hasn't dominated multiple divisions.

          Well going by Ring magazines logic, Mayweather came back from a 2 year lay off and jumped right in at #2 after he beat the guy that was #2. If Cotto beats the #1 guy then surely the same logic should apply?

          If not, the P4P system is flawed to bits IMO.

              That had less to do with who Floyd beat this time as it did with Floyd's body of work. He got re entered at #2 because he retired at number one...not cause he beat the p4p #2.

              If he had come back to beat Berto or someone like that, he still woulda been ranked #2.

                Floyd was n1 undisputed p4p prior to his retirement only reasonable he gets put back in very high, 2 was a bit high though.. as Marquez was overated old and smaller.

                  I don't see why not, he beat the best P4P. But considering how Cotto has been sooo under-rated till this day, the he won't be.
