  • Comments Thread For: Spence Praises Jaron Ennis, Open To Showdown: If The Money is Right, I'll Fight Anybody

You aren't likely to catch Jaron Ennis bloviating endlessly about himself. He knows he's good. So does everyone else. Trash-talking isn't something that Ennis indulges in but his performances have forced those in the welterweight division to take notice. Errol Spence Jr., the WBA, WBC, and IBF 147-pound titlist, is currently preparing for the fight of his life.

Whenever a champion says “if the money is right” it means they are afraid of another fighter. It translates to “well he scares me a bit and I may very well lose so I want a lot more money to make it happen but I’m hoping it never does.”

I personally don't see Spence or Crawford fighting Ennis, which is shame. I believe both men will look to 154 before looking at Ennis. However, I hope it can happen because it's a good fight for Ennis to match up against either Crawford or Spence.
I don't believe Spence is scared of Ennis by wanting financial incentives to take the risk, after all it's common rhetoric in boxing and has been since the inception of pugillsm.

Yea i hear ya, i liked it better when the fighters used to say things like " he is not going to take anything away from me..." or lets do it the fans will enjoy the time we get into the ring- anything but "if the money is right" makes me personally want to see the guy gets his face caved in. Then ask him are you enjoying the money now Spencer ? Have fun counting the money bc that was the driver in you taking the fight.

“No man will take what I got”, “I have to put food on the table for my kids so I’m not letting this go”, “I would love to lock horns and have a fight of the century”, “I’m going to school that kid”, “I’ll break his bones”, “I’ll moida da bum”, “you can run but you can’t hide,” ……all sound so much better than “if they money is right”

Meaningless. If the money is right, anybody will fight anybody.

I will say, these kinds of questions put the fighter in a tricky position. If he says he'll fight Ennis next and khtfo, people will criticise and say he needs to not look past Crawford. But if he says he just wants to focus on Crawford and not think about anybody else, people will say it's because he plans to duck Ennis. There's no answer he can give that will satisfy everyone.

Both Spence and Boots know that Errol has stated repeatedly the only fighter that he would cut weight to 147 is Crawford. So, Boots will have to fight him at 154, which will indeed be more profitable to both, because Ennis will have probably won a belt at 147 after Spence vacates the titles.

Would love to see the winner of Spence/Crawford fight Ennis. Neither guy had plans to stay at 147 and unfortunately Ennis is not a huge star. Doubt they would fight him, huge risk and the reward is not great. But the landscape in boxing is always changing so you never know.
