Comments Thread For: Kambosos: A Lotta Holes In Maxi Hughes' Game; Big Difference Between Checkers & Chess

By Keith Idec - A rejuvenated George Kambosos Jr. is looking forward to demonstrating Saturday night that Maxi Hughes has made a mistake by accepting their 12-round fight for the IBO lightweight title. Kambosos will fight for the first time since he suffered a second straight 12-round, unanimous-decision defeat to Devin

15 kos between them in a combined 55 fights, I don't see how this is worthy of any title to be honest.

What ever the number of KO's or other statistics it dont matter to me what is at stake for these two lane changers has got my interest. I could see both guys getting dropped but bc of the lack of power getting up and fighting on. Might just be a fight inside the ring that is why i am going to watch the card. But then again it dont take much for me to tune but it does take a lot to keep me interested after the fight starts. Plus if Kambo loses it is going to ruin him, and if Waxy Maxi looses it is going to tear him up. So yea a fight could break out in the ring for those reasons alone.

Kambosis should really enjoy these last few televised fights that he gets. Probably a decent enough guy but man it is annoying to hear him talk like he is in the conversation with the best fighters. Lopez is cringe as they come, but him being the reason we all have to hear George talking like Rambo....ugh.

It certainly puts me off. All the stars aligned for him the night of the Teo fight and I think that victory is misleading when determining his level.

George's two close victories over Bey and Selby, along with the two lopsided losses to Haney, are more of an indicator of his level. I wouldn't be surprised if Maxi nicks this one.

Boxing is a strange business, that is for sure. Mean that bc the hype, the lies the focus or anything but true skills can make it hard to keep track of the fighters that are ligit sometimes. Like i said this is a needed good showing for both fighters, but sometimes even when a fighter gets exposed he remains to get fights, just look at Postol last week. Every decent fighter has his night ...... was it Kambo's only drink from the well ? This fight should help decide that and that alone makes it worth the watch. And if he wins well prepare for the hype machine to start up again. If you dont watch out you could believe a lot that is not true about a figther once the hype gets in high gear....

I don't doubt it could be a decent fight, I watched one last night a 6 rounder prelim that was a slugfest between two very ordinary guys and it dawned on me Im not interested in these sort of bouts I like real-class fighters showing high-level boxing, I find I want quality top shelf boxing these days, Im getting old lol.

I find myself trending in the opposite direction (although many of my friends have similar.sentiments as you). For me, too many times the marquee big fights leave me underwhelmed. Maybe because it's "evolves" (or perhaps "devolves") into a high stakes chess match where neither fighter is willing to risk too much at any given time.

I enjoy fighters (and fights) that involve both skills and vulnerabilities. When there are two fighters like that face off with skills that compliment the others vulnerability and vice versa, you tend to get compelling fights...at least compelling for me.

I guess that's the beauty about this sport we love.
