Derrick was a non-technical boxer himself or rather a "door-mat" so I am not convinced about applying technical know-how to his boxers, all seem to master basics and fitness (just my opinion). Best wishes to both boxers, such an interesting fight

I’m guessing you believe Freddy Roach was a great fighter because he’s a great trainer?
Perhaps Robert Garcia, Roger Mayweather, Naazim Richardson, Emmanuel Steward, Virgil Hunter, Nomac were ALL great boxers too?

Outside of basic technique in boxing, it's not really technical, but more about athleticism with hand-to-eye coordination etc, the sugar in boxing.

Technical = master of technique
Technique in boxing = knowing how to throw every single punch and basically how to do everything.
I don't think it's the technical ability you should question in the Derick James camp, but rather the tactical ability.
That's what I question about his fighters
For me his fighters never seem to have a clear, solid game plan for the specific opponent.
Errol Spence is an anomaly because he is so inteligent and is able to make his own in ring adjustments, plus he has such a high volume and aggressive mentality that he can make up from the lack of tactics and strategy from James.
But the fighters with lower IQ like Charlo and Martin I feel suffer from Jame's poor tactical ability.
Yes, he teaches his fighters every technical skill in boxing and makes sure they master them, but what use is that if they lack the IQ to put it together in the ring?
Spence aside, his fighters need better pre fight tactics and strategies from him.
Charlo benefitted greatly from bringing in Juan Guzmann into his camp.
I could literally see Guzmann's work in the Castano rematch, and that was after just one camp with Guzmann.
He'll have had two camps with Guzmann in the Canelo fight.
Honestly I think Canelo is going to have a really hard time with Charlo.
