Comments Thread For: Frank Warren Bristles at Fury-Ngannou Criticism, Touts It as 'Massive Event'
Promoter Frank Warren apparently doesn't buy the logic being peddled by detractors regarding what he is assured will be a landmark financial event in boxing.

People want serious events. Fury is supposed to be a serious boxer and we want him matched against opponents who are seen as serious and not just money spinning gimmicks.
this is the second Fury fight in a row that I have no interest in watching. Am I really supposed to believe that it's everybody else's fault that he can't get a top boxer to fight him?
The bookies make Fury a clear favourite at -1000 - he is expected to win - but Ngannou is given a chance in their eyes at he is +600 - we see less competitive fights in boxing every weekend - including this weekend - Frank Martin is a -1450 favourite. Usyk is -1400 against Dubois.
The fight we want to see is Usyk-Fury for undisputed. If you don't make it you will get criticism, justified criticism too.

No. He is only interested in fighting for massive money and the only fights that can do that are against Johua or Usyk.
Pretty sure Joyce, Zhang (if available), Wallin, Bakole, Hgrovic, Anderson, Sanchez, Mahmummed (sp?) and one or 2 others would jump at the chance. So the fault is with WBC and Fury.
I can never get behind these type of events , they are complete circus , regardless of who is taking part .I remember Ali had a sham and ridiculous fight with a wrestler. Big and massive is not the fight or even the event , just the money being given away by some clueless Saudi's.
Maybe we should TOTALLY support this fight. How many casuals know who Mike Tyson is? Holyfield? Big George?
I believe that Wladimir was horrid for boxing. That reign was so boring for casuals and anyone on the fringe. So many people have told me they used to watch boxing but don't anymore.
Imagine if Fury smashes this UFC guy (who apparently is quite popular and good) and makes a big scene about it. Now imagine Usyk comes in the ring after and they get in each other's face. How many people will watch that fight next that otherwise wouldn't? Maybe it is great for boxing.
What needs to happen for that to actually work? Aside from a lot, boxing needs to continue making real fights happen. We should all be happy with what we have been given lately - Spence/Crawford and their showdown with the fantastic intelligent smack talk, the Monster/Fulton, Charlo/Canelo, Tank/Garcia, etc. I know this is not the golden age, but it is better than recent years.
I have no idea if I believe what I say here or not.
