  • Comments Thread For: Rashidi Ellis Has His Eyes On Ring Return, Sizing Up Mario Barrios

A lack of activity has always held Rashidi Ellis back from having more of a global fanbase. In 2019, 2020, and 2022, the now 30-year-old fought just once. In 2021, he failed to enter the ring at all.

Yordenis Ugas-Mario Barrios: WBC Orders Interim Welterweight Title Fight; Targeted For July
    March 16, 2023

Yordenis Ugas will get an opportunity to win a version of another welterweight title in his next fight.

BoxingScene.com has learned that the WBC has ordered a bout between Ugas, a former WBA welterweight champ, and Mario Barrios for its interim 147-pound title. Ugas, who is ranked second among the WBC’s welterweight contenders, and the fifth-rated Barrios are expected to fight sometime in July in a bout Showtime likely would televise.

Not sure, probably not happening. Boxrec isn't showing any upcoming fights for either fighter

Villa hurt him worse than I thought. Some think a late knockdown isn't as bad as a KO, but its what they remember. When the lights go out, its over. When your name is speedy and some guy out of nowhere, runs you down and then has the strength to slap you around. Thats what nightmares are made of.

The Villa lost wasn’t that bad as I felt the KD’s were due more to mental and physical exhaustion. The first was a clean crack though.
The bigger issue was Villa laid out a game plan to beat the speedy puncher. Ellis lacks pop so I see a lot of fighters pressuring him and walking him down if and big IF they have a chin.

The first 6 rounds Ellis was having his way. If he can sort gas tank I could see him making a resurgence. Ellis is technical enough to box without moment stopping power but has to have a better gas tank.

Would be a great co-main event for Wilder vs. Ruiz, if that ever happens!

Rashidi really needs to work on his conditioning. Even though he gassed out in his last fight against Villa; I still thought he won and dominated most of that fight but those two late knockdowns really hurt his plea.

Villa did not win that fight. All he did was plod forward and followed Ellis around the ring without throwing any punches; Until Speedy was tired and stopped moving as much. I hope that he makes the necessary adjustments and corrections against Barrios.

Barrios? He was a so so jr welter. If Villa didn't put a hurt on Speedy, why is he looking to bunt? There's more to it than running around the block a few more times in training. Villa can do the same thing. Speedy ruled early? OK, but he got tired? He was made tired.
