Mahkmudov isn’t really learning on the job , I gave him a pass with Takam who’s short and knows how to counter punch and ride shots but rough housing guys isn’t the way to go it’ll bite him somewhere else when he’s got to box cleanly with better fighters .
He’s a great marketing fighter though but from what I’m watching and vids I see he’s got to change up his camp now ,others will pick this guy apart if he fights like this all the time which seems to be almost always., tonight was a step back actually even if he impressed us here that’s because casual fans don’t k ow boxing ,he needs to have someone grab him aside and actually teach him how to fight behind a jab .
That being said he did everything I said he would .
That was a pretty accurate take of big Mak
Ramsey has actually become a pretty good trainer but imo , not for the heavyweight division
Or sometimes that can be on the fighter not listening to his trainer but I think it’s the latter
Funny thing here though I think it’s the first time I agree with juggernaut666Comment

I've seen Makhmudov fight half a dozen times. It's hard to rate him because he's a big heavy handed guy who has fought a lot of opponents who didn't have the most punch resistance to begin with. I was glad to see him fight Wach because the Viking will at least give him rounds. A very shopworn Takam gave him a spirited fight.
As to what I'd like to see him do or who I'd like to see him fight...is exactly what you wrote and that I highlighted in bold. I'd like to see him face a durable boxer. Perhaps someone of this ilk: Stephen Shaw, Efe Ajagba, Otto Wallin, Joseph Parker, Kabayel, Franklin, Frank Sanchez, etc.
I realize a lot of these aren't realistic or likely and my reservations about him are irrelevant but that's just my thoughts on the matter.
I am not a Big Mak homer type of fan. He is that good of a puncher, better than Hrgovic and Jalovov as punchers whom I rate 1 and 2 higher on my prospects list which I update one a quarter here:

Getting back to his power is off the charts good, IMO the best in the game and I actually fear for his opponents heath if the ref isn't quick to stop it. Thankfully, Makmudov shows some concern and is very nice to his beaten opponents and team.
Basically he is as good as he is going to get. There are no fights for him to prove anything vs. the tier two like opponents. He is ready for the champions and a major belt shot now.
And he can win one of those fights.Last edited by Dr. Z; 07-03-2023, 06:35 AM.Comment

The difference between those men and Wach, Wallach and Takam is what? Only Sanchez is a top ten prospect and he is not like he is going to fight Big Mak. Takam for his part is tough and the sort and can be defensive. He was floored though.

I originally stated I'm not yet sold on Makh. I'm fairly certain I see what he brings and I'd like to see him face and solve other kind of challenges. That's strictly for my own edification, he could fight and defeat a titlist without me being sold on him first.
I respect your opinion and don't necessarily disagree with the majority of it. We are all fans and have different opinions in these matters.

Those other opponents I mentioned bring different attributes, styles and challenges that Takam doesn't, they also all look to actually win fights (which I can't say about Wach and Wallisch). Takam is smaller and fairly shopworn but he's still crafty and tries to win. Wach is big and durable but he's essentially been used a living punching bag by title aspirants, Wallisch is very good at getting knocked out.

The heavyweight division is loaded with talent. Forget Wilder, the and re-cycled old guys like Fury like to fight. And forget Fury who venturing in to an 0-0 boxer in a fight where no knock down are allowed/
Big Mac, Hrgovic, and Jalolov are the future. Two of the three men will be world champion. Maybe all three will be champion before they retire. I am more sold on Hrgovic and Jalolov because they had better jabs , and in Jalolov's case world class foot speed, and quite a bit of power. These skilled "super heavyweight's " are like two weight classes above the average champion 40+ years ago. They really are there own class of boxing.
It just the Big Mac is a scary Godzilla looking dude with a 20"+ neck. And that twitch he has makes him extra scary. He wants to destroy his man. He is intriguing talent to say the least.Comment
