He was born AND raised in Russia, fought amateurs in Russia. Moved to Australia later in his life so he is Russian. If he would have grew up in Australia then you could call him that.

He was gonna go to the Olympics in Barcelona representing the Soviet Union if it hadn't been for the end of the cold war. Calling Tszyu an Ozi is about as dumb as saying Gary Lineker is Spanish or that the great Didier Deschamps is a ****** Londoner!

Kostya Tszyu and his wife Natasha became Australian citizens at a
naturalisation ceremony on May 19,1995 at Rockdale Town Hall,Sydney,Australia.Therefore on that day he became an Australian citizen.
You could say he has dual nationality as he was born in Russia.

Why do people get bent of shape about this, look if he was born in Russia and raised/bred there then he is Russian, if he was born in Russia and left at a very early age, then! you can make a case that he is not Russian, but there has to be grey areas one way or the other to make an exception to the rule that were you were born is where you come from.

That is how i view it anyway.

Lewis was born in Britain raised here till the age of 13 or something, Calzaghe was born in London but he was not raised there and left at a very early age so..........he is Welsh if you apply.

You can't really call him an aussie. His russian but represents Australia. Half his fights is in Australia.

i know alot of people view Kostya Tszyu as australian even though this is false. he is Russian... he was just based in australia. whats your oppinion? is he Russian(which he is) or australian?

im only doing this thread to prove to all people who think he is australian that he is russian.

Both but voted Russian. I would choose place of birth over length of stay because try as you might, it would always show when you are traveling or staying on another country.

He is Russian, with an Austrailian passport. But I would call his kids austrailian.

depends on the mum and dads origins... if they were both russian then hes russian, if they were both australian then hes an aussue but maybe hes 50/50...
