Comments Thread For: Teofimo Lopez: The Only Way I Come Back Is Multi-Fight Deal Directly With a Network - Not a Promoter

Teofimo Lopez has an idea or two of what could compel him back to the ring. The former unified lightweight champion and recently crowned junior welterweight titlist turned heads earlier this week when he announced his retirement from the sport. Not even two days after he earned a unanimous decision over WBO 140-pound titlist Josh Taylor at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the 25-year-old Lopez went on

If you want to retire then do it, don't keep giving interviews saying this or that. Lopez talks like he is an all time great and he isn't or at least hasn't proven it yet.

He's a bit full of himself. Probably listening to his father as usual. "Hey Teo, do the ole Mayweather retirement. It worked for him".

Teo hasn't done enough that anyone should care to give into his demands to make him fight. He's only like 25, retirement? Gtfo. It's playing the game too early and doesn't get how it works.

The most that's going to happen is that he's missing out on high paying fights against quality opponents that can make his status grow and his bank account. Instead he's planning to sit on the side lines hoping some crazy fight materializes out of thin air for him and the call for him to come back is so great that someone throws crazy money to make the fight. People don't want to work hard these days. If the equivalent to that in the fight game is that you just fight less, but want big pay checks, that's what it is then.

Teofimo keeps saying nutty things like he's Picasso. That just brings more critics out because it's easy pickings. He is a hell of a fighter but he is his own worst enemy--along with his dad. Maybe they will evolve--we hope.

4fight 20m deal Regis, fight win or lose you'll recoup the $ in the Loma rematch as well as a fight with either tank or Ryan Garcia. If the Teo shows up that showed up vs sander and kambosa the Ryan would be willing to take the risk to try & get a name on his resume. If he wins or looks avg hell nah but then there would be the tank fight. The 4th fight would be Ramirez or Matias or a cashout vs the bud or Spence loser. If he wants big $ he will have to work for it. No 9 figure deals to fight Andre Berto

He is overestimating his value. That said, good on him, if he can negotiate something that pays him more, kudos. The reason he is doing this, and the reason Crawford was trying to do his own deals, is because there isn't huge money in boxing anymore, for most fighters. Because the promoters protect the fighters, won't make big fights with ko's built in.....because many fighters fight defense first and thus the casual fan has no interest....etc.

Floyd beat the system by turning heel, made a ton. And the sport was alot bigger back then. In the process, every guy now bases their worth on being undefeated. Meaning, very little risk.

Hopefully the current state of the sport forces these promoters to make big money, high drama, big hitter fights. Stop protecting the 0's and realize the 0 doesn't mean **** when the fanbase is waning.

Crawford had to IM Spence to get it made, lol. The sport is in a silly state of self suicide

Get rid of Split-T management my brother, especially McWater who's good at managing 6 round fighters!
