Comments Thread For: Lopez-Taylor Peaked At 980,000 Viewers On ESPN; Biggest Boxing Audience On U.S. TV In 2023

Lomachenko was coming off a wide win over Campbell, and Lopez was coming off a brutal 2nd round KO win over Commey. Two winners were fighting.
When two losers fight, usually not much hype. Unless they’re both very exciting KO fighters. Like AJ vs Wilder I think will do great numbers even though their hype is way lower than a few years ago. Everyone knows that fight WILL end up by KO.Comment

You mean Ryan’s ppv numbers. He averages 1.2 mil per ppv event. Tank averages less than 400k per pay per view event he headlines.
Two actually did way more than this. Most of his fans watch on ESPN Deportes (Spanish) which isn’t counted and neither are the peeps who watch on ESPN+Comment

And Ryan has a huge presence on social media. He’s like the Jake Paul of boxing.

An average mid-season, NFL team, already sliding out of the playoff picture, will still draw 13-16 million views.
If Teo is this year's record holder, so far, boxing is not in good shape.
Isn't ESPN factored into a cable package? I.e. free with a cable package?
I have not watched TV for about five years now I am ignorant on the current payment structures.
But if so, then one million views on cable TV ain't great.
We need a PPV monster to arrive; we need a Dempsey, a Tyson, or if you don't like monsters than an ideal, a Louis, an Ali.
One million views on cable is good news but second raters, like hockey and NSCAR can do that.

I bet the majority of those who watched this fight, were doing so to see Teofimo Lopez get smoked by Josh Taylor.
It just didn't turn out that way, because Teofimo proved that he still had at least one, if not a few more winning performances left in his career.Comment
