  • Comments Thread For: Munguia On Derevyanchenko: It Was A Very Tough Lesson, I Have A Lot To Learn

ONTARIO, Calif. - Jaime Munguia is aware that he dodged a near disaster against Sergiy Derevyanchenko. Heading into the twelfth round, Munguia was down a point on two scorecards. At best, he could have scored a majority draw had he won the last round on those cards. But Munguia made some major magic happen by dropping Derevyanchenko with a devastating body shot, and thus, snook away with a unanimous decision with scores of 115-112, 114-113, and 114-113.

Munguia has progressed and jabs more but his defense is poor and he will suffer at the top level. Kudos to him for coming out in rounds 11 & 12 with all that energy and trying to make things happen.

Very good point! Going into the championship rounds; I unofficially scored the fight a dead heat with both fighters scoring 5 rounds a piece or 5-5. I thought Munguia swept the championship rounds which gave him the victory in my judgement.

Only lesson is to not be over confident.. put your hands up to defend.. you will not steamroll everyone.. excellent fight..

dug deep and prevented the upset by winning 11th & 12th round’s overwhelmingly.. congratulations!!

Poor Sergiy. Man he a tough out. If he's a gate keeper he's one of the best.

Well you finally fought a LIVE body who actually came to win not the parade of clowns you had been feed. I gained more respect for you from this fight than virtually all the others combined!!! Now i hope you do not go back to them bums.

I was going for Derevy to win but the knockdown was the difference in the fight.

My brother, a casual, said he enjoyed watching the fight. He also had access to the Taylor/Lopez fight, and he said it was boring and both fighters were boring to watch.
