Regardless of the money, Diaz still would not have fought this fight due to weight.

Malignaggi Vicious, Attacks Diaz Over Rematch Tumble

Originally posted by BIGPOPPAPUMP View PostBoxingScene.com was advised that a rematch between former champions Paulie Malignaggi and Juan Diaz is now a dead issue. Diaz, and his manager Willie Savannah, were unhappy with the presented terms and turned down the fight. The two main issues were the money and the weight. From what I was able to find out, Diaz was going to make a little less than what he had earned for the August fight with Malignaggi. He wanted to make more. They were not happy about the proposed weight of 140-pounds. They wanted the fight to take place at 138.5; the same catch-weight as the August bout. [details]

well paulie and victor want to fight on the same card..... they can just fight each other, and then they can have robert on the card too... that would solve the problem, but golden boy and hbo are too bitchmade to simply make it happen......

****, I'd say screw that too if I was Diaz. Would you fight for less money in an in-demand rematch in which they are also making you move up to the next division to fight it in? I certainly wouldn't. He was so much smaller than Malignaggi at 138.5 already.
Diaz needs to get his fat ass in shape and down to 130 where he belongs. Great lightweight fighter, but would not be any good at 140. Too small.

I starting to believe Diaz is becoming afraid of fighters who are technically sound like Paulie, JMM, and Nate. They all schooled him. They all gave him a boxing lesson, and I don't think he wants to risk another loss. Money shouldn't be the issue, because a rematch of the Malignaggi suggests that Paulie would beat him AGAIN, which would earn him less money. You don't keep getting bigger paydays fight after fight after fight in boxing. Name me a fighter who's checks haven't flucuated high and low in their careers. ****, Roy didn't get payed as much for the Lacy fight than lets say, the Ruiz fight, and that was his own promotion and ****. Diaz has been beaten the last few fights, why does he expect a larger check? Because he got a gift in Houston? Please. I'm glad Paulie is willing to fight the best, and glad to hear he called out JMM.

There will be other fights for you Paulie. Why don't you take Juan Urango's 140 belt at the Hard Rock in South Florida where he fights and then go on the co-feature to Juanma-Gamboa in the Garden during Puerto Rican Weekend and fight Zab Judah for the battle for Brooklyn. I belt and then I nice payday for a sold out Garden for your new 140 belt. Sounds like a way to get your name back in the mix to me.
