Comments Thread For: Joseph Parker Batters Faiga Opelu, Scores 1st Round Technical Knockout

Joseph Parker's first career fight in Australia did not last very long at all. The former WBO heavyweight titlist from Auckland, New Zealand picked up his quickest win in nearly eight years with a first-round stoppage of Faiga Opelu. A barrage of punches ended with a right hand to floor Opelu, at which point referee Ignatius Missailidis immediately halted the contest at 1:26 of round one Wednesday evening from Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne.

Did this reporter watch the fight?

It was a right hand from Bommber that landed, and Bommber who was tackled by the ref.

Parker was talking like this was a life and death fight against a formidable opponent. Maybe now he can get a Fury fight since Fury said he wants to fight in Australia. Parker still has somewhat of a name and is considered safe for any top opponent. He doesn't have real power and cannot box for a full 12 rounds.

Ozzies paid 60 bucks for that? lol ****s sake.

I'd like to see Parker in with the likes of Dempsey Mckean and Justis Huni now tbh. and Nikita seems to have more power/potential than Tim

As one Gent stated above - this looks like future Fury opponent. Maybe next. Fury likes to give his pals a great payday for easy work. See Chisora.

Nice to see Parker smash up a Pacific heavyweight with a good record to keep advancing back. He's been unafraid of a challenge, in there with some of the best, and he's a welcome member of the top tier ranks.
