If Plant was able to take 4 rounds off David, then the Ward that destroyed Chad Dawson would son Benevidez.Last edited by Gary Coleman; 05-23-2023, 10:40 AM.Comment

Benavidez is a beast and I like him so much, but he has to many holes in his game for a prime Andre. There’s a reason Andre had not lost a fight since a young teen he was a well balanced fighter meaning a big heart, talent, & well balanced in every area the ingredients 95% of boxers don’t have. He went from being a stand out amateur at 175 down to middleweight when he turned pro, had a few problems and made adjustments like he would do with Benavidez or many others in the past or present and win because he was a winner; now argue that!Comment

I entirely disagree with coach garcia, prime Ward would've beat Benavidez comfortably at 168 & 175. Decision though not by Ko.Comment

You're underestimating the power of headbutts, low blows, relentless smothering, holding and hitting. It's not pretty but the dark arts seem to have a way of offsetting physical advantages. I don't think Ward's overrated, he's just really crafty and is a difficult match up at 168.Comment

If you hang around boxing enough, you see a lot of fighters come and go and develop a natural skepticism any time an undefeated fighter gets plastered all over a network in order to be turned into a star. I think Benavidez has a lot of potential to be an attraction, but I don't think this kid will crack the pound for pound rankings. His power and toughness is there, but he's a little robotic for my tastes and this comparison to Andre Ward is way out of line.
I was never a huge fan of Ward because he was never an entertaining fighter nor did he draw big numbers despite his enormous accomplishments, but having said that, the guy could box, was crafty, and passed the litmus test when the going got tough in that first Kovalev fight and the second as well. I understand that there was controversy in both fights and I've actually sat down to score them, the first one Ward eeked it out by coming on strong in the latter half. I understand it could've gone either way, but Kovalev looked so strong early that people thought he had it in the bag automatically. The second fight was competitive but it was only a matter of time before Ward got him out of there. The low blows ****** big time, but that initial right hand that rattled Kovalev up top wasn't illegal and he was on spaghetti legs for the remainder of that round.
Benavidez would at best win 3 rounds...probably rounds 1, 4, and then 1 more between 8-12...if any.
Why would anybody compare these two is beyond me? What does Benavidez have that merits this discussion? A win over Plant? Beating down Dirrell? A stoppage over Lemieux? I mean, solid names...but come on.
He brings eyeballs to the sport, but this kid would get schooled by Boo Boo Andrade easily...let alone Andre Ward.Comment

People love to come with the hot takes. Andre Ward now, old and retired, would give Benavidez all he could handle. A prime Ward sends him back to his blow up doll beat the fck up.Comment
