Comments Thread For: Haney: Lomachenko Beating Will Be Worse Than If He'd Fought Me In 2019 - But He's No Slouch

By Manouk Akopyan - In a matchup that is nearly four years in the making, undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney and former three-division titlist Vasiliy Lomachenko will finally fight on May 20 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on ESPN+ pay-per-view. Back in 2019, Lomachenko was on the shortlist for being boxing's top pound-for-pound fighter. After beating Luke Campbell in September of that year, the Ukrainian held the 135-pound WBO, WBA, and WBC titles.

Yeah. Because Loma wouldn't have gotten any credit for kicking the crap out of a 19-year-old kid who was more of a prospect than a contender. Could you imagine what they would have said? Loma cherry-picking a kid before he could become a threat. That's what they would have said. Now Loma gets credit for the W.

I don't think it's good to be bragging about beating a past his prime fighter.
If you win it's expected but if you lose then you got beat by a old man.

Haney is really making it easy to root for Loma but at the same time making himself the villian may bring in more money.

You do realise Loma was fighting the likes of Anthony Crolla and Luke Campbell, right?

Loma's got this,100%. This guy hasn't been in there with anyone even close to what Loma brings. Undisputed for what? beating Kambosos? A guy who won the good Karma lottery when he fought a version of Lopez with one foot in the emergency room? Give me a break.

Crolla was an ex-world champion and was also the mandatory. Loma didn't want to fight him; he had to. Campbell was ranked with the WBC in the number one spot, so if Loma were to fight for the WBC title, then he had to have an opponent, which was Luke. Luke was no slouch either, a long time contender and gold medalist. Remember that Loma was trying to fight Mickey Garcia, but he ducked him, dropping the belt before the fight could be made.

So you don't have an argument.

I see Haney's fight Plan, Jab and Hold all night.
Basic boxer. Nothing special. He should be happy that he is young enough to make the weight and has that reach advantage. Nakatani, Cambell, and Ortiz has size over Loma and that didn't help. If the best Loma shows up, it's going to be a long night for Devin.
