Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Canelo Had Subpar Performance vs. Ryder, He's On Tail End Of Career

Oscar De La Hoya was not moved by Canelo Alvarez's recent unanimous decision win against John Ryder. The undisputed super middleweight champion Alvarez (59-2-2, 39 KOs) busted Ryder's nose in the second round, dropped his mandatory challenger in the fifth, controlled the first nine rounds, and cruised through the last three during his homecoming bout in Mexico.

I have protected him for so long, and Hearn exposed him!

If Canelo was with GB, Oscar would be, did you see that performance? Best I've ever seen..... As he goes and chops up another line....

Boxing will be better off when he’s gone. The establishment has appointed him to a position and status he never really earned. One can only speculate how much money dazn has thrown away on him

Oscar seems to loose it when it comes to anything Canelo or Mayweather related. Not healthy...just move on man.

Canelo is really only a very expensive punching bag for elite fighters.

Get him in with Bivol again, Benavidez, Beterbiev, he loses to all these guys.

Canelo has 4 fights left in him before retirement albeit not against the most elite. He loses to Bivol Beterbiev (for now let him age out) Benavidez and Morrell Jr. Best plan let Morrell Jr fight/beat Benavidez forcing Benavidez to move up to his natural class of 175. In the mean time fight Charlo, Andrade and finally an aged out Beterbiev. Then have a change of guard fight against Morrell jr. Then retire. Morrell Jr will become undisputed and eventually hold a trilogy series vs Benavidez at 175 undisputed vs undisputed. Morrell jr wins at 168 but the rematch down the road at 175 is a toss up for that Benavidez natural class.

Oscar sees every Canelo fight on Matchroom as about two kilos of Charlie lost from the GBP party budget .
I really feel for the guy because the Canelo years would have really helped make his habit expensive and then his cash cow cheated on him

Relax. With Bivol around none of these guys will become undisputed at 175. Bivol is in his prime still.

I just said the same thing in another thread. The Canelo v Ryder fight only did 220k PPV buys. I'm quite sure the gate was abysmal. Canelo vs Bivol ll won't do any better. Who else do they have for him where they can recoup some of that money? Berlanga? Quiggley? They have no one. If he returns to Showtime he has about 4 or 5 50 million dollar fights waiting on him. Get it together redhead!
