It's hard to say whether Joyce didn't show Zhang enough respect or whether he was trying to be careful and disciplined, but just couldn't handle the southpaw stance, especially the speed and accuracy of Zhang's left cross, which he throws without any tells. We'll find out in the rematch, I guess.

But Joyce can take a brutal beating and still win.
He got battered by Zhang but I wouldn't have backed against him taking that fight on points were it not for the eye closing over.
I think Zhang will need to stop him. He's not that easy to stop.Comment

what I can't grasp is that despite all his pedigree all the coaching at olympic level with the very best, he still fights this way. Either his coaches bank on his chin or he doesn't listen that much. Obviously in the last fight his face didn't hold up so doesn't matter if you can get hit by a rhino without blinking the doctors take it out of your hands.Comment

He believed his mystique of being "The Juggernaut" and did very little film study or technical preparation. The Parker KO was fool's gold.

Joyce didn't try to outbox Zhang. Joyce came into the ring the weight he should of came in the ring at. Joyce is a 240 pound guy when in shape and so is Zhang. The thing is that Joyce is so slow that Zhang's extra weight wasn't going to tire him out.I am expecting Joe Joyce to come in weighing much heavier this time than he did the last time. He came in lighter the first time because he thought he would be able outbox and outclass Zhang which was a mistake.
The "Juggernaut" was still too slow and robotic for the Chinese heavyweight.. Zhilei still managed to buzz him several times throughout the fight; Despite Joe's attempts at outboxing him.
I expect Joe Joyce to go balls to the walls in the rematch. He is going to make it come down to a battle of wills and attrition. Whoever wants it the most shall win this fight.Comment

I suppose the explanation is that Joyce is simply not a versitile or flexible type. However he does have tremendous amounts of durability, size, strength, heart to tap, and an uncomplicated skill set that he executes to perfection. For his part, let's don't forget that Zhilei Zhang himself has the very same history of "pedigree, all the coaching at olympic level with the very best".

You're wrong. Joe Joyce was several pounds lighter against Zhilei Zhang than what he weighed in his previous fight against Parker. For example. He weighed 271 lbs against Joseph Parker the fight prior to Zhilei.
However, against Zhang he weighed only 256 lbs compared to the China man's 278 lbs. Therefore, I expect Joe will attempt to bring back his old style of fighting.
I can see him averaging more than 70 punches per round, weighing a lot heavier, with a very high work rate, cardio rate and punch volume. In order to wear down the older, larger and stronger man.Comment

Lol Zhang isn't stronger. Zhang isn't bigger in terms of height or weight. Zhang is natural 240 and so is Joyce. Joyce himself claims he is a 6'6 240 pound guy. Zhang comes in much heavier than he should and normally Joyce does too. Joyce came in light. That didn't make Zhang stronger. Zhang won because Joyce is slow and extremely unskilled. Joyce putting on weight won't make him faster or anything else. You're wrong. Joe Joyce was several pounds lighter against Zhilei Zhang than what he weighed in his previous fight against Parker.
