Come on, NSB. Let's be consistent.

The fact is, when C-level fighters are able to stay the distance against top fighters, we then need to assess the performance.

It sounds like NSB just likes guys that eat punches. Punching bags, as Brandon Rios once said.

At some point, people on lost affection for the Sweet Science, which is Hit and NOT Get Hit.

There is a simple explanation for what you're talking about here.

If a defensive fighter, with the classic "hit and not get hit" approach to boxing, goes up against a superior opponent, he will be unable to implement the "hit" part of his game plan because the opponent is too good for him. But he will still box defensively, trying his best to "not get hit", because that's what he does. And when fans see a guy boxing defensively for 12 rounds, without landing anything significant on his opponent, they call it "running"

On the other hand, if an aggressive fighter like Ryder goes up against a superior opponent, and fights aggressively the whole 12 rounds, he will "eat punches" and lose every round, but the fans will see him making a fight of it, and they will applaud his toughness for eating all those punches and still coming forward.

I think the difference was that Ryder risked it all, he engaged, he made it a fight, he traded punches, fought in the pocket, fought through a broken nose (which restricts breathing), since round 2, fought through getting KD’ed, getting wobbled. Came to fight.

Those were two completely different “he went 12” fights.

Karen didn’t engage, wasn’t trying to land anything, avoided a fight completely, a win for him appeared to be to just go 12, was outlanded 203-97, landed no telling blows whatsoever. Lost a 120-108 decision that will be forgotten 2-3 years from now.

      Really bad comparison man.

Ryder just admitted that he went in there expecting to get knocked out.

Bottom line: I celebrate fighters who try NOT to get hit. Not rock-em-sock-em.

Nobody will remember Ryder's performance in loss compared to Billy Juice Saunders, for example.

Oh yeah, they will. Just like Gatti is remembered fondly for never giving up and always coming forward, despite getting beaten from pillar to post multiple times

                people admire toughness and bravery

what they don't admire is bitches running n' stinkin' out the joint in order to survive

I remember posting similar to the following about the BJS vs Canelo:

The guy almost withdrew from the Canelo fight because he's demanding a large ring. And that pissed me off.
Here he was with all his braggadocio of wanting the fight, his game plan was to run like Lara.
And he actually thought Canelo fights like Lemieux, who BJS clowned with. And I said,

you don't beat Canelo, or at least get a competitive performance with a sh***t plan like that. You fight fire with fire.
It's mostly mental. You don't fight like you're being bullied, that nothing can hurt you. If you plan to run, then
you don't belong in there with a more mentally fit fighter.

This probably have nothing to do with the topic, but there are all kinds of cases.
