Why has the HW division been so bad?

If you go back to the 70s, there were a ton of world class heavy weights, who were far suprior in general to what we have to today. Whats the deal here? Are big men just getting weaker through the generations or is it something else? Is boxing just less appealing now than in the past?

The only 2 HWs worth a damn are the Klits and most everyone else just seems... weaksauce.

The guys at HW are bigger and slower, thus not as much fun to watch. They got skills, but just can't fight at a fast pace all the time.

Wasn't there only just 1 period in the 60s-70s where there were many good HWs and every other era had just a couple of great talents and everyone else was mediocre? So the perception that the HW division used to be perpetually great and only now it is terrible is kind of a misconception.

it seems a lot are on a kick about size. they're immobile and uncoordinated in contrast to the previous hws. there should probably be a cap or a shw division.

the whole loser thing was the fact of hating on one's own. that's a real crabs in a bucket mentality.

Yeah but in the 60 and 70s there were many more appealing world class boxers than we have now. Why would it be so different now? Thats what I can't understand.

Truth is heavyweights have been garbage since the late 70's early 80's. It's just each decade happened to have their savior. The 80's in retrospect seems competitive and exciting as a heavyweight division but only because Tyson was around. The 90's had Lewis and the 2000's the Klitschkos.

All the fights between the contenders are competitive it's just that when they (the contenders) fight Vitali or Wlad they get dominated and that makes the division look weak when in fact it's as good as ever if not deeper now since it's now more global with the fall of the USSR.

Bowe/Holyfield was more exciting than all of lewis' fights combined

Part of it is that more athletes are going to different less abusive sports. Take an example: Jason Taylor of the Dolphins he would be a good outside fighting boxer, tall long reach high agility and co-ordination. Instead he's playing football, good for the NFL bad for boxing etc.
