I don't take Haney to seriously but he's on point on this one. I remember when Salido beat him, Loma and his fans bitc*** about how dirty Salido was, but Salido was just giving Loma a taste of his own medicine. If you can dish it out, take it like a man as well....

For Salido to "Give Loma a taste of his own medicine" that would mean there is a fight before their fight that had Loma hitting someone in the balls all night. Would you be so kind to show me this fight and which rounds it happened in?

Then could you show me the fights AFTER the Salido one where he does likewise.

What makes you think the current version can't beat Haney? Haney is light punching and pretty easy to hit.

I think Haney's overnight weight gain and size will play into it. I wouldn't say Haney is a great bigger man that will beat a great little man. I think it'll only take a GOOD bigger man to beat an older Loma and Haney is GOOD enough with the extra size to beat the current Loma.

It's not so much Boxingscene but this one writer, Hans Themistode. He must get through some serious Word of the Day toilet paper this lad. I can recognise his articles within the first paragraph - often the first line - by his comically overt over-reliance on a thesaurus.

I don't want to rip on him too much because at least he's trying, but yeah, it's quite jarring at times.

Loma does have a really good inside game. I've mentioned it in other threads, but here's some things we can expect:

When opponents tie up, he'll squat down and try to pull his arms free when he wants the ref to break. That places his weight on their biceps and tire them, slowing their punches over the long run and making it harder to keep their guard up. If the opponent tries to disengage, he'll use the energy of them pulling away to explode up and deliver either a straight left or left hook to the face, depending on his position. He generally tries to work his way to the left shoulder of the opponent too, so he can land offense.

He lifts his arms up over his head often when they try to tie up, which shows he's not initiating the clinch and can lead to point deductions for excessive holding, and also leaves his arms clear for delivering surprisingly hard shots to the head. Haney's probably thinking that's dirty because he just wants a hug, but it's really what they're supposed to do: fight out of the clinch. He's scored knockdowns several times off of the clinch when opponents try to disengage, and the break is almost always called when he wants it because he's so active. He uses the time to position himself so he's ready to crash the distance immediately if he sees the opportunity, and otherwise get ring and foot position.

He's got a bunch of other tricks, but defending against these ones requires getting the feel for it. Very much like in BJJ and wrestling, how you can score a takedown by pulling down on their arm, waiting for them to pull back up, and using that momentum to duck under and make the entry for a double. If you haven't trained specifically against it, you have to feel it out in the ring, which is way too late. There's almost nobody else who has that nuanced an inside game so it's going to be very hard for Haney to learn the counters. I'm betting Haney started watching tape and saw this and isn't really sure what he's going to do about it. He's really got to keep Loma on the outside for 12 rounds, and that's a really tall order.

I would feel way better about Haney's chances if he had more demonstrated power, or an inside game beyond tying up, or was a southpaw, but as is, I'm thinking about enjoying getting good odds on Loma for once.
