Vargas is an overrated fighter.

He got his ass kick by Trinidad, De La Hoya, Mosley and Mayorga. Lost to Winky but got the decision. Who he beat besides Quartey? and Quartey was coming of a 1 year lay off, Catillejo was past prime.

Well, if Tito KTFO him, it does not mean he is a **** fighter. Currently, IMO, he is better than Cotto. Cotto is just beginning though, we'll see where he ends up.

He was damaged goods after Tito. He was managed very poorly, Vargas could've been a great fighter. They threw him to the lions too fast.

I agree with this. However, we know this only in hindsight. The fact that he faced them at that age shows how advanced he was. Like another user said, Cotto wasn't **** at 22, Vargas already had the Winky and Ike wins at that age.

Looking back on his career it's easy to see how he was put in against the top guys too early, but while it was happening, it didn't seem that way. He was so good that it appeared that fighting anything but those top guys would be a waste of his time.

I don't blame Cotto for quitting, and believe that Vargas refusing to quit ended up costing him, but you gotta admit Vargas showed more heart. He got knocked down brutally 3 times in the 12th against an all-time great in Tito (undefeated at the time) and got up everytime. Cotto took a knee and quit against a guy with 5 losses who he was expected to beat. Very different scenarios.

He fought with courage and all that but cotto its superior in everyway, jab, ring generalship, speed, footwork, intelligence etc etc...

Like Mr. Pink said, Vargas went 4/5 against Winky, Campas, Marquez, Quartey, and Trinidad in a 2 year span beginning when he was 21 and ending when he was 23. If this is not impressive, I don't know what is.
