Vargas has some good wins too, particularly Winky and Quartey, but Cotto's resume is superior IMO
yory boy campas , winky wright , ike quartey , raul marquez , javier castillejo , wilfredo rivera.......

cotto's resume only looks good because it's recent.

the names of his opponents are fresher in the mind.

      Peace.
It was a close fight that some scored for Winky but the majority had Vargas winning. I don't see it as a fluke.

I disagree with that. If old Mosley couldn't handle Cotto, no way does he outbox a guy with one of the best jabs ever.

As far as resumes, Cotto's might look better because he has less losses, but the one guy he lost to is a guy who Vargas was miles ahead of. I also give Vargas more credit for the Oscar and Tito fights than I do Cotto for say, the Clottey fight. I know Vargas got KO'd, and Cotto won a (controversial) SD, but Tito and Oscar are much toughter opponents than Clottey, and I believe Vargas did better against them than Cotto would've.

I agree. Those are better wins than Shane, Zab, Quintana, Torres, Clottey, etc.

I got Vargas as the better fighter. He was a great fighter in his prime, but one thing that never ran out was heart.

how many good showing did Vargas have against the best boxers? you cant even count De La Hoya because he was on steroids. Now a plaster Margarito having that extra power with a chin of gold is good enough to K.O. Vargas before 11 rounds.

Cotto is better than Vargas. The haters will say what they want but P4P Cotto beat Vargas no questions asks!

Works both ways. History always looks better. It's why some people refuse to give modern fighters credit in comparison to older fighters, they just can't accept that modern fighters could be as good.

People view the generation that Vargas fought in as better than the current one. And they might be right. But we won't really know until we look back on it.

And Cotto's resume is very good. I don't know if you're just in your **** with Cotto fans mode or if you're serious, but if you're serious, you know better.

I just think as a whole it's a bit stronger. He has a lot of wins over very solid contenders and a handful of title defenses in each of the two seperate weight divisions he has virtually conquered

I think it's a case of shining brighter but burning out quicker vs. shining longer ... And Cotto has still shone pretty brightly to be fair too

EDIT: ...And also, yes, I'm holding his losses against him.

the history looks better thing happens in different eras.

vargas was at his best almost 10 years ago.

not long enough to be romanticized but long enough for guys new to the sport to not remember how highly people thought of vargas and the people vargas fought.
