Comments Thread For: Anthony Joshua Says Summer Fight Still Possible But Wants Approval From Trainer Derrick James

Anthony Joshua is eager to establish a long-term working relationship with his latest trainer. The former heavyweight champion from Britain linked up with well-regarded coach Derrick James of Dallas, Texas, ahead of his fight against Michigan's Jermaine Franklin in April at The O2 Arena in London. Joshua won a fairly wide decision in a performance that many regarded as solid if fairly unspectacular.

Time to find a real soft opponent for the summer to not ruin the plans for the big cash in vs Wilder or Fury. AJ is so gunshy and prone to get ktfo atm.

Chisora, Charles Martin or Eric Molina would be safe picks. Btw Chisora is not on AJ's resume wich is weird.

Joshua is a weird dude. I don't know why he would need to check in with his trainer for a fight. He is the one paying Derrick James. I would think that he would start running and doing activities to get himself back in shape and work on his boxing skills. He could fly down to Texas or whatever gym James works out of to start preparation for a summer fight. This dude is so soft. It's a matter of time before someone knocks him out.

Chisora and Joshua are good friends, so it’ll most likely never change.

Fighting 3 times this year makes complete sense, I think his inactivity has stalled his career slightly and hasn’t helped him in the conference department. Of course big fight money talks and dictates the summer date unfortunately.

Very smart move. If you're trainer tells you you're not ready, you're not ready! Choose your opponent wisely! I would suggest Efe Ajagba!
