Comments Thread For: Gervonta Davis Outsmarts, Outguns Ryan Garcia In KO Victory

By Corey Erdman - Gervonta Davis is a master of capitalizing on not just his opponent's worst instincts, but their best ones as well. For the fighter known as Tank, this process started well before he sunk a paralyzing left hand into the liver of Ryan Garcia on Saturday night. Throughout his career, Garcia was plagued by the same assumptions that tend to color discussions about fighters of his ilk--young, popular and handsome. Despite Garcia's massive popularity, his naysayers insisted that he was a mirage, a

Very easy fight to break down.
    1st round, feeling out.
2nd round Garcia applies pressure and makes Davis feel very uncomfortable.
Mind you if Garcia does this for entire fight, he either wins enough rounds or hurt Davis.

But he pushes forward a little too recklessly and Davis catches him, with a counter to Garcia's left hook.
Probably number one thing Davis would've been working on.
Garcia is not hurt but loses his confidence from that point on.
Starts respecting David too much. And largely lets Davis dictate the pace and distance.

Garcia threw that left hook way too casually and without setting it up.
It was a perfect shot to counter him with.
    Give Davis his due.
But Garcia is not a dog. Not a real gutsy fighter, like Tank Davis.

The lazy left hook Garcia threw was so banal and obvious, he didn't even bother concealing it.
So a lot of fighters could've countered that.
But Davis has some special power, so he made an exclamation mark here.

        Garcia's career is over.
Everybody knows now, you crack him good and he'll give up.
Victor Ortiz had more courage that Ryan Garcia.

There's no IF in elite boxing. Tank is always ahead of his opponents, he knows exactly what he's doing. When they think that they are pressing him is only setting them up for a devastating blow, especially for someone like RG with his reckless offence. He caught him twice while he's trying to press Tank. People should give Tank credit for his craft and ring IQ, he's a lot more than a power puncher.

There was nothing that Tank did that was amazing. He has been in with limited opposition considering how talented he is. I was a fan from the Pedraza fight but for 5 years he has fought mediocre fighters. I’m happy he is getting that money but I fear he is not chasing greatness. He beat up Garcia but who couldn’t. He done what he was supposed to do against a fighter who is limited in experience and fundamentals

If Garcia does it the whole fight lol what is that, he did it for a round and got smashed, if he did again he goes to sleep.

Tank's ring IQ is really high, a very smart fighter.

Ryan just didn't fight a smart fight, and I didn't see much improvement, whether the weight affected him badly or not.

I don't want to criticise Joe Goosen, but I guess one could say Calvin Ford had the better strategy, but then again, had and has the better boxer.

                  Thanks, Corey.

A fantastic show of bottle from Garcia. An even better show of ring IQ from Davis. He really is a phenom IMO. The brashness, the theatrics, the personality. When you continuously back it up with good convincing W's, thats real.

It’s just like Manny Pacquiao said after the fight. He said that Ryan Garcia needed more development and to work on his technique.

He needed it against master technician and strategist like Tank Davis. He saw everything Garcia was going to do a mile away.
