What does Deontay Wilder need to do to surpass Muhammad Ali?

Deontay Wilder has 43 wins 2 losses, which is a ratio of 21.5 wins per loss. Muhammad Ali has 56 wins and 5 losses which is a ratio of 11.2 wins per loss. Both have equal title defenses at HW with 10.
Muhammad Ali has a slightly better resume, but Wilder still has time to catch up if he fights AJ, Usyk etc.

How many more fights and who should Wilder fight if he wants to match and surpass Ali's legacy?

As a first step he's going to have to learn how to box.

He won golden gloves, bronze at the Olympics, 44 wins, knocked Fury down, 10 title defenses, won the belt etc. I'd say he can box pretty well

One name, one face. The name and face is that of Beast Wilder. Maybe it's what you like. Wilder's big right hand is a one-punch showstopper, but so is Ali's phantom punch. Nash out

Both have 10 defences of the heavyweight title each.

So to answer your question. Win the title, and then 1 succesful defence to make it 11 and go clear of Ali
