Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Ryan Garcia Can Become Even Bigger Than Canelo, Bigger Than Oscar De La Hoya

Ryan Garcia is unquestionably the most popular boxer Oscar De La Hoya's company promotes. The 24-year-old Garcia has more than 9 million Instagram followers and a marketing deal with Gatorade, despite the fact that he has held only an interim lightweight title during his six-year professional career. If Garcia's pay-per-view fight against Gervonta Davis does the type of business De La Hoya anticipates April 22, "The Golden Boy" believes Garcia can become a bigger star than even Canelo Alvarez and himself.

yeah, ODLH as a promoter is very modest and objective in declarations about his fighters. I say that Ry can become even bigger than Godzilla. yup

I don't think so. De La Hoya's head is at least twice the size of Ryan's.

If he wins but he honestly he has no chance. He won't ever get a decision on the cards againt tank on pbc and he's not stopping Tank who has a granit chin. Maybe 2 years from now it would have been possible but the kid is too green right now. And with the rehydration clause Ryan will be a weakened zombie come fight night.

Kell Brook got a decision over Shawn Porter on PBC. It's very possible.

Kell Brook is at least half black. Ryan isn't and Ryan isn't part of PBC.

Ryan is going to go in the ring, looking like a zombie, dehydrated, and down 4 rounds on all the judges score cards.

Ryan Garcia becoming the face of boxing would be like Pat Beverly becoming the face of the NBA. As of now, they’re more known for their antics as opposed to actual accomplishments.

If he wins then he can go to a next level. He’ll be more well known than he is now.
Don’t think any boxer today can be as big a a mainstream star as ODLH in his prime. Boxing is too niche a sport.
