He's not a legend now, even if he foresees himself as one.
He can go on to become a legend, though.

Why people are shltting on someone for being confident is beyond me.

But you’re putting a different slant on it here, and I'm going to ask you about some of those interesting comments. So are we saying that only 0.1 % of people from the city of Baltimore, are successful in life? How does that compare to other cities in the US? Is Baltimore at more of a disadvantage than other US cities? Or other Worldwide cities for that matter?
I’m not putting a slant on anything. The article mentioned a bunch of things and then slapped a quote that was out of context from All Access episode at the end. I was clarifying the use of the quote. Tank is on record saying he has a lot more to do in the sport including, fighting Shakur, Haney, etc.

Secondly, successful in life is different than success in boxing. Making it in boxing is not like going to college and becoming a doctor. If you can’t acknowledge that much…then there’s no debate.

And yes, Baltimore is a very unique city when compared to the majority of cities in the country- and The Wire highlighted that very well. But it’s not just coming from there, it’s his life story. He’s not supposed to be where he is, period. He’s one of the last ones, literally, still alive that made it out. Included in that is his Coaches own son that got murdered, a former ammy boxer.

Lastly, I come from 80’s NYC…I pay homage to anyone that comes out of those environments and makes it to the top of the boxing game. If the man wants to say he’s a legend already in his city…what’s the problem? Why is that triggering? Shakur can say the same thing already as well. Not a legend in the game but a legend in life. Learn to celebrate people’s life and yours will be much happier.

What are people saying about you in your community?

Legendary status is bestowed upon an athlete by the sport's fans over time, based on a body of ring accomplishments, not self-proclaimed by the fighter him/herself.

The pejorative saying, "a legend in his own mind" is apt here.

Not having a go, it was one throwaway comment but, as everyone has said, you don't call it, the sport calls it. Right now Gervonta, you are a good long way from legend status.
