Well, for starters…when was the last time someone came up in the Cuban system and defected before they were already past their prime?

Morell is going to be the future at 175.

As for Morrell, I think he's gonna follow the Bena and Plant blueprint until he gets a big fight and it won't happen this year.

The biggest mystery to me is Andrade. I wonder what he signed up for.
Apparently Andrade was offered Benavidez and turned it down.

Why start taking difficult opponents now?

They're not going yo answer that. Now they're a least 20 fighters from Cuba all over the world, that defected 21yo or less. Yoelvis Gomez didn't left his best years in Cuba nor Ariel Perez, and a bunch of kids from the juvenile team that left the team in Dubai. The new fans don't want their idol facing stiff competition, Cubans don't care who they fight.

          Same old Andrade then.

He seems to have set his sights mostly on Jermall Charlo. An inactive middleweight with personal issues.

            - - Alas, Rigomortis, I knew him well, Yorick. A feller of infinite jest and a real knocker outer of paper creampuffs when he ain't stinkin' the ring.

Last I heard was their Dads we're cool with each other and were working on a deal. This is not very recent though.

Well, both of them were pretty good boxers, and Gamboa was exciting to watch, the problem, they both left their best years back in the amateurs. This is not the case with the new wave of Cuban boxers, with the exception of Robeisy. And they always managed to grab a belt somehow, which is a very hard thing to do, especially if you take into consideration they're not many of them representing Cuba.

Has Andy Cruz defected or not? I’ve heard yes and no on that. And it’s a shame César La Cruz didn’t get over until 33. Excited for the new crop
