Comments Thread For: Hearn on Golovkin: He Lacks a Bit of Guidance; Not Going To Fight Just For a Couple Million Dollars

Eddie Hearn wishes Gennadiy Golovkin had better counsel. The head of Matchroom boxing couldn't help but express his disappointment with the way the former middleweight champion's career has gone as of late.

Golovkin knew the situation with mandatories before the third canelo fight.

You only get mandatories if you aren't going to be fighting the other champions.

He kind of put himself in a weird spot when he to Murat's belt. Because he has 2/4 of the respectable titles.

Another angle he could've played was the Bud Crawford. Wait for the belts to be unified by the others, beat 1 guy, get 3 belts at once, then beat the 1 guy who has the 4th belt and become unified that way. Or beat 1 guy who unified the division already.

At least then he would've had "big" fights to fight instead of having to go to training camp to fight random generated boxer number 7 for a mandatory title defense. All at the age of 40+. Nobody has time for that when you're that old.

ggg knows that he can't hang with other elite guys and only wanted a canelo payday. No guidance is going to change it. He never dared to be great.

Golovkin knows exactly what he is doing. He's to dam old to fight promoted nobodies trying to make a name off of his status. G has paid the pprice and earned his accolades. No way will he be Eduardos gate keeper and has the right to make these decisions.

I so sure that he would take the Munguia fight! I was so wrong! I don' think it was all about money. He would've made his money on the Munguia fight!

I disagree with Eddie on this.

At this stage of Golovkins career, titles are absolutely meaningless. So vacating those titles was the right call, since the money wasnt there to make either fight. And no need to pay those fees, or jump through their hoops. And he probably isnt even sure if he wants to fight at 160, 168, or not at all.

Because of the money involved, there are only a couple of fights that could be made, but "titles" have nothing to do with any of them.....

Definitely weird to give up the belts if he plans to keep fighting. He's never going to get another Canelo payday but he's still a draw so a fight with any of the names at MW or SMW would do well

When people look back on Golovkin’s resume will they see much greatness there?

But at this point in his career you can’t really expect him to go after dangerous fights anymore.

Canelo robbing him twice really hurt his career. Golovkin has been declining badly for a few years. He could still knock guys out, power is the last to go, but he has obviously lost a step. Just hang them up. He was fun to watch, nothing but respect.
