I'm sure AJ is gonna get a bunch of negativity for not getting the stoppage, but what he desperately needed was a victory. Franklin tried to emulate Ruiz's game-plan, and he appeared to have the necessary hand/foot-speed to do so. He looked pretty good in the beginning when he was doubling/tripling the jab and throwing combinations. However, Joshua was determined to control the pace and distance like in the Ruiz rematch via sticking-and-moving/clinching. He did try to do occasional infighting as instructed, but he wasn't completely comfortable. Overall, the fight wasn't pretty. Franklin couldn't apply enough pressure to deplete AJ's gas tank, and the weight difference eventually exhausted him.
I don't want AJ vs. Whyte 2. I'd like AJ vs. Joyce/Zhang, Wilder, Ruiz 3, Hrgovic. I also would like to see a Bakole bout in the Congo.Last edited by kiaba360; 04-01-2023, 08:29 PM.Comment

Before those cowards will finish they must first dare to share the ring with him. Shouting Fury and Wilder will finish him by sycophantic idiots doesn't mean a shtttt.Comment

You talk like a Greedy Belly fanboy. Tell that coward to take a real challenge and stop running from undisputed fights. He hasn't proved anything yet by beaten a one trick pony Wilder who himself has been fighting tomato cans and went so low as to fight his sparring partner.Comment

Clearly Aj is not the same fighter he was before the ruiz ko. He seem to be more cautious and not fighting with the same confidence. He doesn’t follow through as much with his punches which is taking something off his power, instead it like he waiting for a counter to come back. He won’t fury and has very little chance against wilder or Joyce in my opinion so what next ?Comment

Enter the AJ Klitchko era. Jab and hug. Pot shot and win ugly decisions. Klitchko adopted that style after getting stopped a couple of times.
Franklin was doing alright and I think would have touched AJ up a lot more if AJ wasn’t holding and doing other dirty stuff(probing, bear hugging, holding his arms, pushing his head down). Man so desperate to win he adopted all the dirty tactics. Fury does a lot of that stuff but at least he punches in between.
Franklin didn’t handle it well getting angry and pushing him off. Got the ref rebuking him (although it was a home team ref). Franklin’s camp needs to train him to deal with that stuff better. Go with a low blow once to let him know you won’t put up with it, jab and take a small step back then counter, check hook, spin out, pivot left on the front foot and counter with an uppercut or gut punch.
Benevidez showed a great adjustment in the later rounds with Plant holding using clubbing power shots up close instead of his usual combinations.
