Ryan should've taken that fight with Gesta, like Oscar said!
Comments Thread For: Shakur Stevenson Doesn't Believe That Ryan Garcia Has The IQ To Beat Tank

Ryan has fast hands and some pop but thats it. He leaves himself open for counters with the chin upright. Stiff defense, stiff footwork and no angles. Tank would lure Ryan into a trap and counter hard him. Tank is a sneaky-patient-skilled operator. But tbh I'm rooting for Ryan. He seems a genuinely good fellow.Last edited by Raimondo; 03-30-2023, 11:32 AM.Comment

I see those both as massive compliments that Ryan is unworthy of. Trinidad and Corrales were nothing short of warriors with no quit in them, and they proved it against real opposition. Ryan does more talking than fighting, has bailed on several fights and boxing seems to be as much of a priority as social media for him.

Garcia still seems like a lot of potential but still limited, and arrogant, which is preventing him from evolving. He's got the attitude that says "what I'm doing works, so why should I change," while the top champions are always trying to be better. Very much like Berlanga, really. You'll never be worse off becoming more skillful, and crushing your opponents by wider margins, but if you stay stagnant, sooner or later you'll either up your level of competition and start to struggle, or an opponent will watch enough tape to know what your habits are, and be able to take advantage. That's fairly likely in this fight. Speed and reflexes fade with age also, and even a millisecond difference can be the difference between avoiding a shot and getting clipped. Shakur may run into problems with that too as he gets into the end of his career, although I expect his ceiling to be higher. I'm not sure whether it will be better for Ryan's potential to win or lose, especially because I'm not sure he's got the mental fortitude to come back from a loss. And I don't think he's that good of a guy. He does this "body shot challenge" with everyone that he brings on his challenge, which is just him hitting them, but he never takes any back. That's just being a bully, and doesn't speak well of his moral character.

Lol we all know why Stevenson is backing Tank. Davis has low iq. In and outside the ring. If he was a smart fighter then he wouldn't be losing every fight up until he catches his opponent.Comment

This is my assessment also. Ring IQ differential is a big negative for Garcia. Tank will spark Ryan near R8.

Fighters as small as Davis have two modes, they on defence or they are aggressive, the majority of the time hard punchers when they are on defence they will generally drop rounds, think Manny on the back foot, which is why Manny was not on the backfoot often, Davis is not being in outboxed in the true sense, he is losing points because he is shelling up and moving not leading the fight, then he explodes and takes guys out.
Davis is a much better boxer than many fans think, watch this and take notice of his boxing, he has very good eyes and head movement he slips punches that people thinks hit him, not that many do its slipped or he takes the power off it like how Floyd would take the power of punches, its very subtle.
