Unless they want and have a need to see who the better of the two is and feel that if they do it, they should just get paid for it for whatever injuries they are going to suffer afterwards and being paid is the given on the Pro level.
However, they could always fight each other to see who is the best (at this point in time) behind closed doors as to not give into the mob that just wants to see them beat the crap out of each other for their pleasure.
Giving into the mob's wants may be seen as being a puppet to the people. By not giving in, you show you have the authority over them and live by a different standard of life by not selling your morals for money.
Basically:
I think if they did it for money it would devalue their worth as role models. However, if they did it for themselves to see who is the best and wanted the fans (since they become fans and not mob anymore because they are being invited)...then it would be ok...and payment is the given as Pro athletes.
