swarmer has fast feet. they will smother someone. David can't do that because he has slow feet.

eg Maidana is a swarmer. If he was getting boxed up by Broner, he can smother him.
Golovkin can fight as a swarmer too. He smothered Kell Brook, Monroe, Geale etc. chased them down

Benavidez was just swinging at air hoping Plant gasses which that bum did.
Swarmers don't need to have fast feet, they just swarm, or try to swarm/overwhelm, their opponents with activity, which Benavidez does.

no swarmers swarm as in they stay on their opponent.

Benavidez is a combination of a few styles.

He pressures for the most part and works on the inside with very short but brutal shots. Very good punch placement on the inside.

Aside from that he is very rangy when wants to be especially with the jab. He is capable of fighting from a distance and has pretty good timing with shooting those single shots even though he missed by a lot on that one shot early on.

Very good guard that covers most his large frame so it's hard to just get a good shot off on him when he is stnading in front of you.

It's the combination of those three things that drains people of energy because you don't ever really get a chance to settle down because he fights from pretty much every range and catches most shots on that guard. Combine the handspeed and it makes opponents hesitant to throw.

It has nothing to with the feet, someone that cuts off the ring and stalks his opponent is not necessarily a swarmer. Canelo cut off the ring and closed the distance better than Benavidez against Plant yet Canelo didn't swarm Plant with punches Benavidez did.

Not every pressure fighter will be the same I suppose. What category does that leave Vergil Ortiz Jr in though?

The definition of a Brawler, Swarmer and Boxer-Puncher state:

Brawler: "If the out-boxer represents everything elegant about boxing, the brawler (slugger, puncher) embodies everything brutal about the sport. Offensively, they possess the best balance and knockout capabilities due to their tendency to plant their feet on the ground while fighting. The most elite sluggers can punch with power from every angle. Some have the ability to corner their opponents to ensure that the latter ones fall prey to their devastating punches. When it comes to defense, they make use of grappling techniques to smother their opponents and leave them vulnerable for power-punches. At the same time, they tend to be the masters of defensive movement in the danger zone of being punched. They apply subtle defensive movements, such as slipping and minimal ducking to reduce the damage they take in punching zones."

Swarmer: "Also known as the in-fighter or crowder, swarmers fight very aggressively and close-quarters. The entire theory behind this style is bombarding the opponent with attacks to prevent effective counters and wear down the opponent's defenses. Boxers using this style consistently stay very close to their opponent, chasing them wherever they go; however, this requires a large storage of energy and a high endurance. Boxers must train extensively to have the footwork abilities needed for this style. Combinations of movements, everything from hopping to dodging and attacking, rely on a strong footwork. Swarmers must be able to move around the ring to stay on top of their opponent."

Boxer-Puncher: "The boxer-puncher possesses many of the qualities of the out-boxer: hand speed, often an outstanding jab combination, and/or counter-punching skills, better defense and accuracy than a brawler, while possessing brawler-type power. The boxer-puncher may also be more willing to fight in an aggressive swarmer-style than an out-boxer. In general the boxer-puncher lacks the mobility and defensive expertise of the pure boxer. They are the most unpredictable among all 4 boxing styles. They don't fit in the rock-paper-scissors theory, so how the fight plays out between this style and other styles tends to be unpredictable. A boxer-puncher's ability to mix things up may prove to be a hindrance to any of the three other boxing styles, but at the same time their versatility means that they tend to be a master of none."
