Heart and courage are the most important..

traits in boxing. I have all the respect in the world for Arreola and JMM for being outmatched and not giving up. Here's a quick story in my gym about heart..

I train amateur fighters in a local gym in Miami. There are amateur fighters there as well as just some kids looking to get in shape or take up boxing. There are kids from all skill levels there.

There is this one kid, we call him "Mayweather" because his favorite fighter is Mayweather. He's a young black kid about 15-16 years old and is incredibly talented. Here's the problem though, he doesn't listen and is always looking at himself in the mirror, especially without his shirt. He's fast and strong, if he applied himself he could be very good.

Then there's this young white kid. We call him danger because he reminds me of the kid from the movie "Million dollar baby". He has ZERO athletic ability and is as stiff as a board. He is in good shape but just has no business in sports period. He's been training with me for about 8 months and it's taken me that long just to get him to where he can spar without me having the fear of getting seriously hurt.

Well, I put him in with Mayweather to spar and told Mayweather to go about 20% if that. I just wanted to get Danger's feet wet with someone his own size, both are about 115lbs.

Well Mayweather was trying to kill him, I had to tell him to go lighter and lighter but he was landing cheap shots and broke the kids nose. I asked Danger if he wanted to continue and he didn't hesitate for one second. He spared 3 rounds with a busted nose and never quit.

I was pissed at Mayweather because he took advantage of this kid after me telling him to go easy a million times. Well the next week, I made Mayweather spar this Kid named Luis that has much more experience and is about 135lbs.

Mayweather quit twice in the ring. He took a knee and turned his back during the fight and I stopped it. He is all ability but no heart. When he was beating on someone he knew couldn't do anything to him, he was looking great.

The moment someone hit back, he folded like a coward.

Heart means everything, it can be the difference between winning and losing. I would take Danger over Mayweather any day of the week in my gym because even though Danger will never be a good or even avg boxer, he isn't a mut who quits. Mayweather has the talent to be really, really good but will never achieve that because he has no heart and is a coward. I seen his true colors....

LOL great way to prove your point, by giving us an example of two punk kids.

Let's put it this way - if heart mattered more than SKILLS (THAT'S the most important thing, OBVIOUSLY), Gatti would've beat Floyd. The end.

Heart is great but like you said Danger is never gonna be a good fighter, even though he's a tough kid with plenty of courage

Again, you missed the point because it isn't a matter of "guts" beating "skill". Or even that I'm talking about two young kids.

My point is that people who say ****** **** like "Heart doesn't matter" or is overrated are ***in idiots.

Because if you give me two guys that are equally matched but one has more heart, I guarantee you he will win everytime.

Gatti vs Mayweather was a mismatch but it still took a lot of heart for Gatti to hang in there as long as he did.

None because Mayweather wants to be a celebrity and not put in the effort and dedication to be a good fighter. Danger will never get a fight, he would get killed.

I don't take kids on unless they show me something, that's just my rule of thumb. A guy like Mayweather has incredible talent but is a showoff and bully. He has no heart.

A guy like Danger should be reading books instead of showing up at the gym but he came because he was bullied in school and wanted to learn how to protect himself.

I have only about 6 kids right now that are fighting and about 2 others waiting to get their amateur cards.

If skills mattered more than heart, obviously Meldrick Taylor would have beaten JCC because he was owning and leading on all scorecards prior to JCC taking him out in the last few seconds of the 12th round.

See, I can own your argument just as easily with shallow examples.

And? He still lost. Skills pay the bills and win fights. If you get into a situation where you have to fall back on heart to win a fight, you as a trainer failed to do your job in properly preparing him to win on skill.

So the fighter with the better skills wins every time?

                  Answer that for a second...............

He that bad ? like i've seen untalented kids but man....8 months of training (assuming you're a good trainer) and you'd never even consider putting him in? must be pretty bad
