I called it weeks ago. Straight up solid tactic by Fury to keep people talking about him. He's not dumb enough to take a fight with only 8 weeks to get in shape, he just wanted to see how well he could make the unified champ bow before he continues his promotional tour and circus act. Bring on Chisora 4 and Whyte 3 and McDermott 3 while we are at it.

After Usyk had agreed to Fury's demands for a 70/30 split, he obviously wanted a fairer split should there be a rematch. Usyk asked for that. Fury refused. They walked.

My thing is, how can Usyk's manager lay out the full blame on Fury, yet act like the big problem is top secret and can't be revealed? To me, it sounds like it's either a lie or Usyk's manager is ashamed to specify it as the deal breaker.Last edited by juggernaut666; 03-23-2023, 01:07 PM.

I think Fury knows Usyk poses a legit threat despite all his middleweight remarks. Usyk won't hurt him or drop him to the canvas, but he certainly has the skills to outbox him. Fury also watched as Usyk took some of Joshua's best punches and still outpointed him, that has to be weighing on his mind. He'd rather play these silly games than to risk is "0" in the loss column.Rebelrbg likes this.

Usyk team knows what’s going to happen , they move forward the other guys moves back . This game is played out now for months . Fury’s exposed and .warrens out of ammo to cover for him it’s time to move on . Notice how silent Arum is to because he knows his side is trying to disrupt the fight because Arum helped them do it with Joshua and I know this because there’s no way Arum thinks a 70/30 split is realistic in the first place so a counter split would have to take place one way or other . 2. A 60/40 acknowledges he is the bigger box office draw, despite tradtionally a unified champ in a fight like this being offered a 50-50 split.
3. Filling Wembley is a smaller slice of the pie than the PPV money. And the really big draw for the PPV money would be the contest for undisputed. That only comes from Fury vs Usyk.
4. 70/30 was greedy as hell, but turnabout is fair play. Usyk asked for that split, should cirumstances be that he won the first fight and Fury wanted the rematch. That doesn't seem unreasonable, given he would be undisputed at that point and Fury would have no belts and be coming off a loss, as opposed to an undefeated, unified champion being forced to suck up a 30% split.Rebelrbg likes this.

A lot of casuals don't know who Oleksandr Usyk is, even though he holds most of the belts. I've never heard of a split that's contingent upon who wins. How many fights have taken place where the split of the purse depended on the winner? If Usyk beats Fury, then he would be able to command the lion's share of the purse split in his NEXT fight, where he would be the A side. Right now, Fury is the A side, so he should get the larger share of the purse.
You say Fury should get the larger share of the purse right now... And this is what was agreed. He would get 70% right now. And if they had gone for a 60/40 split, he would still be getting the lion's share.
You say if Usyk beat Fury, then he would be able to command the lion's share of the purse split in his NEXT fight.... That is precisely how the negotiations failed, because Fury wouldn't agree to giving Usyk the lion's share of the split in that circumstance. And basically all rematch clauses have contingencies baked into them; a rematch clause is inherently a contingency clause.
As for Fury's drawing power, we'll have to see. I think it's a big if that he'll be lining up against any of the top guys at all.
