Comments Thread For: Prograis Favors Taylor to Beat Lopez: 'Style-Wise Teo Is Better, But Taylor's Too Big, Too Aggressive'

Regis Prograis likes Josh Taylor's chances against Teofimo Lopez. The recently crowned WBC 140-pound titlist from New Orleans offered his thoughts on the upcoming title bout between the WBO champion Taylor of Scotland and Brooklyn's Lopez. Their promoter, Top Rank, will stage the fight on June 10 in New York City.

I agree that Taylor should win this, but Taylor could have peaked years ago and there's a question mark over the long term effects from his recent injuries (he seems injury prone).

Teofimo needs a top trainer in his corner if he wants to be champ. His dad brought him to this point but maybe they need a Freddie Roach quality trainer. Prograis is right--taylor will be a tough test or worse.

I think the money is going to force Taylor to weight-drain himself to fight at 140, when he's probably known for 2 years, that he needs to move up to 147!

Taylor should win but Taylor style is also Taylor made (see what I did there) for Teo. Don’t be surprise if Teo catches Taylor and KO him.

I'm rooting for Teo, Taylor just did Catterall dirty, stringing him along for a year and backing out anyway. I hope Lopez gets a brutal KO.

Totally agree. Beyond the fact that it seemed cool that Taylor was giving Catterall a shot when he clearly deserved one, that fight also would have made for potentially great theater in that Taylor had the opportunity to redeem himself after a bizarre and unsightly performance. It would have been beautiful to see him re-draw what I had always thought was great form.

There is such a scarcity of good fights out there that I probably will watch Lopez-Taylor but I really don’t want to support anything Taylor does at this point.

Teofimo will surprise a lot of people and rise to the ocasión and get right back to the top like he was after the Loma victory. I don’t know why y’all don’t see the talent is not close with these two… size may help josh, but what if at this point, 140 is actually hurting him to make? If that’s the case then it’ll be EASY work for teo!

Taylor would get smashed at 147, and he knows this.

I agree with BlackRobb with caveats. The way I read it, Taylor's idea was unify at 140 then step up fight Crawford & W,L or D retire with a lot of money. He did his part beating Prograis & Ramirez but ran into the whole interminable Crawford v Spence thing. Because he can't get a straight fight at Crawford Taylor is trapped. He doesn't want to be scrapping with other contenders at 147, &, lets be brutally honest, those contenders include 'Boots' who he can't beat, Vergil, who I don't think I'd bet on Josh to beat, the winner of a rematch between Rashidi & Villa, again I don't think I'd bet on Josh to win. That leaves him clinging on at 140 but everyone saw, v Catterall, that Josh can't safely make 140 anymore. He's in a very unenviable situation where he either renounces 140 & probably gets thrown into the lions I've mentioned, or keeps boiling down & endangers his own health, or stays at 140 by using PEDs & endangers himself & his opponent. Maybe time to call it a day & get the bike out Josh.
