Comments Thread For: Yordenis Ugas-Mario Barrios: WBC Orders Interim Welterweight Title Fight; Targeted For July

Yordenis Ugas will get an opportunity to win a version of another welterweight title in his next fight. BoxingScene.com has learned that the WBC has ordered a bout between Ugas, a former WBA welterweight champ, and Mario Barrios for its interim 147-pound title. Ugas, who is ranked second among the WBC's welterweight contenders, and the fifth-rated Barrios are expected to fight sometime in July in a bout Showtime likely would televise.

Barrios, best known for his losses. How does he get a title shot?

Barrios is that safe opponent they will match around at PBC. Looks good enough that he might have a chance but can't get over the hump because he is limited. He is the new Jesus Karas Soto.

How the hell is this an intermin title fight? Ugas got TKO'd in his last fight. Barrios has lost 2 of his last 3. At welter he's only fought twice. A loss to Thurman and a win over non ranked Jovanie Santiago.

If Ugas is shot considering his age and Spence's record of ruining fighters, Mario Barrios could potentially win.

Ugas also tends to be inconsistent throughout his fights, he can beat top contenders like he did by losing a split decision to Shawn Porter, beating a faded Pacquiao and gave an account of himself by putting a good fight with Errol Spence.

but at the same time gives supbar performances against the lower echelon. Like he did with Imam, Ramos, James, and Figueroa Jr.

Good fight, Barrios looked like he can make something happen during his last fight. His only losses are to Tank and Thurman. If he turns into something special, those guys that he loss to should receive more credit for their win against him.

How the hell is Barrios in any combinations for any title at 147?

How ironic. The very fighter Spence stopped will re-emerge BEFORE Spence. The wagons seem to br circling Spence, more and more. It'll soon be April. Still, crickets chriping from the Spence camp. Perhaps Crawford was wise to NOT wait 18-months between showings, waiting for Spence.
