Belts are only labels, who holds the belt is all that matters, lots of guys win belts from ordinary fighters the belt doesn't mean anything when evaluating the fighter.

Haney vs Loma ain't only much more significant fight in terms of titles but also more technical, higher level fight.

We're talking about Loma. ***in natural FW. What a freak of nature.

I think part of it is because Haney, while skilled, just isn’t really that exciting of a boxer. And Loma, while also very skilled, is clearly past his best days.

Gervonte Davis and Ryan Garcia just have a bigger fan base.

Look at how crazy everyone went when Mike Tyson and RJJ boxed. Look at how crazy everyone went when McGregor and Floyd boxed. Those weren’t for belts either.

Belts matter, but it’s only part of the equation. Belts can only take a boxer so far.

Belts do matter regardless of whether they lost its prestige or not. It's like a winning lotto ticket and a great bargaining tool during negotiations.

Tiny percentage of boxers at the very top may not need it but the rest depends on it, and that's why every young fighter competes to earn a spot under the sanctioning bodies.

Yet them fighting is the by far the biggest fight in the division with no belts involved. Go figure…

Definitely, Tank vs Garcia is a far more intriguing fight stylistically and yeah at this point Loma ain’t got nothing for Haney IMO.

They have little value anymore, they’re essentially just a marketing tool used by promoters/networks.

I agree that the fighter makes the title rather than vice versa.

Belts do matter, but I think the right question is to consider for what and why. To make big money fights? To make entertaining fights? Belts are not necessary for this, but having legitimate Belts at stake does make fights greater and more significant.

Tank vs Garcia is an intriguing match up because they're two prominent talents in the sport fighting eachother in their prime. The fight would be even bigger if it was for a belt, a unification match or for undisputed.

How exactly would you say they make fights greater?

                      They make no difference really.
