in terms of sheer excitement and seeing one of these idiots get knocked out, tank vs garcia is good for that aspect of things. garcia has accomplished nothing at any of the 3 divisions he's fought in so far. tank has done a pretty good job of fighting nobody else at 135 in the top 10 aside from cruz. tank deserved a draw at best in that one, in my opinion. i don't know how anyone can consider these guys the best at 135 and fighting for lightweight supremacy.

i consider lomachenko vs haney to be much more important to the division and i might be a little more intrigued by that fight

I feel Shakur would beat them all at 135.

              To many belts
That is why they don’t mean as much as they did before
The green and gold brought much prestige but not anymore with a belt being made for a circus act ( Fury vs Paul ) or for just about every event possible
That is also the reason casuals don’t tune in to the sport like they used to because they have no clue who the champ is
Wouldn’t be surprised if Sulaiman comes along with some belt for the Tank/Garcia fight just cause of the magnitude of the fight

Theres nothing hes shown to tell me that. Then u have Davis whos been duckin Loma for damn near 9 years. AND he basically blew off Haney instead of fighting him cause his boss said no.

This isnthe social media fight of the year.

Same thing at 168. I want to see Benavidez-Plant way more than Canelo-Ryder

In response to the OP, Leonard vs Hearns in September 1981 proved that belts don't matter at a certain level. The point was made 42 years ago when Ray and Tommy made the match and after the fact, invited the sanctioning bodies to get on board. Truth.

I get it. The belts don't change the fight itself. I guess it could make someone fight harder hence making it a better fight, but no real way of knowing that either.

For me the belts increase what's at stake. There's always bragging rights as to who wins a fight, if fighters are undefeated or on a crazy run, that tends to raise the stakes too, but that only matters to those that value things like that. For the most part in the boxing world belts still matter, otherwise these organizations would have gone bankrupt already.

However, I think that if we're talking about the belts being necessary to make good fights or to be financial successes, the answer is obviously no. In some instances belts may help create intrigue and add meaning to fights, but there have been great fights and big money fights without belts. Ward vs Gatti, Rios vs Alvarado, Mayweather vs McGregor, Paul vs Fury and even Butterbean probably proved that.
