It doesn't really matter, because there is too much money in Mayweather-Pacquiao, and they are eventually going to just calm down and accept a 50/50 split, meaning the battle for welterweight and P4P supremacy will be settled by that fight. After all, if Pacquiao beats Cotto, I don't see how anyone can question Pacquiao's validity as a true welterweight.
Agree with the bold, you can't question it.

When people like Shane Mosley and Joshua Clottey haven't been able to beat Miguel Cotto at welterweight, whoever does obviously proves him as a fighter that can be considered a real and excellent welterweight.

By the way, Cotto is the #1 WW because since 2007 when they fought Cotto is 4-1 beating 2 top WWs and losing to one, Mosley is 1-1 at WW losing to Cotto and beating Margarito.

Cotto's Body of work plus him with 1 extra win againts top WWs, plus him beating Mosly makes the #1WW.

Floyd needs to beat a top 10 WW to even get ranked. His position as P4P fighter is undisputable do to his skills, he retire as #1 and that P4P is based on opinions, thats why P4P means ****!!

That damn Twisted Sister Oscarita De La Concha is riggin' the rankings. We knew that once ODLH purchased the Ring, it would lose it's credibility.

              I disagree with that.

I think the very close loss to Cotto and the bonecrushing win over Margarito is the best combination of the three fighters who are 1-1 against each other.

Cotto got a brutal knockout in a fight that was close and he looked very good in, and a close win over Mosley.

Margarito has a close knockout win and a brutal KO loss. He's clearly third place.

The Cotto win over Clottey gained him a lot of ground, but it was awfully close, and Cotto did look pretty vulnerable that night, even in a fight he won. He won on activity, because it did look like Clottey was getting the better of exchanges when they were both punching. Whatever the reason for the lack of activity on Clottey's part, it was what lost him the fight.

That maybe right about those 3, but you need to take into account that Cotto beat another top WW and 2 other fighters, wether they where bums or not.

Cotto have a win over him plus the better body of work since they fought!

beating Margarito is bigger than beating Clottey though. Especially the Margarito Shane fought.

If you really want to stack welterweight resume vs. welterweight resume, it's not going to end overly well for Cotto

                    Cotto
                    Wins
                    Quintana
                    Urkal
                    Judah
                    Mosley
                    Gomez
                    Jennings
                    Clottey

                    Losses
                    Margarito

                    Mosley
                    Wins
                    Rivera
                    Wise
                    De La Hoya
                    Diaz
                    Taylor
                    Stone
                    Estrada
                    Cruz
                    Collazo
                    Margarito

                    Losses
                    Forrest
                    Forrest
                    Cotto

I definitely see it being close, because a lot of those Mosley wins are outdated, but... while you can say that Cotto has done the better work recently, it's been good work that has exposed some of his flaws... the only flaw of Mosley's that has been exposed recently is his bad luck and his inability to get a decent opponent to get in the ring with him.

I agree with larryx. How can they have Mayweather #2 at ww when they should have him at #3 after Cotto and Mosley.

TheRing is biased in favor of black fighters I tell you!
