I'm not spinning anything. Common sense and Bud said that he had already been in talks with BLK before June. Bud hadn't fought since November of the prior year. As a free agent and champion, he didn't need network backing in order to make a fight, that's the whole point of being a free agent.
Crawford simply could have approached any network that promoted the opponent of his choosing, and presented what are the numbers and other conditions he would be looking for in order to offer their fighter a championship fight. It's that simple, and as the champion he has most of the leverage, or the so-called A side, except against Spence because he holds 3 of the belts and is a bigger draw.
No spin at all, as a free agent champion, he could pick and choose his voluntary defenses, until he's mandated, and one of those could have been Boots, but he chose to sign, taking himself off the free agent market, for one fight for a big check against Avanesyen, instead of fighting Spence, and instead of taking a voluntary defense against a top contender like Boots or Ortiz.
