I wonder what was going through Tyson’s mind at that point, as the actual lineal heavyweight champ of the world must’ve felt like a white collar event.

    • I wonder, does Jake Paul actually receive high level coaching or does he just spar a bunch and call it done? I say this because fundamentally he's no better now than he was three years ago when he had his first fight.

His balance is poor, he keeps too much weight on his front leg, he commits to everything and often leaves himself out of position, he looks away from incoming punches and looks at the floor sometimes when throwing his own... the list goes on.

I know he's a novice but three years of boxing "professionally" is more than enough to tighten up your fundamentals to a noticeable degree and develop a solid base with which to work from, especially given his apparent dedication to the sport and all the money he has to throw at it. Perhaps he should ditch those two cheerleading yes-men (Flores and Love) and hire somebody who can actually teach.

        Good observation. Fully agree.

I’d be jumping on the ropes if I got paid £4m too

Nah, to be fair to the boy it was probably relief more than anything. Let’s be real, he had pressure on him. It might not be top level boxing in the ring but it’s high profile and there isn’t many people in the UK that doesn’t know who Tommy Fury is. A loss to Jake Paul would have been embarrassing, plus his own family cracking jokes in public that they would disown him if he loses, especially when one of those family members is heavyweight champion of the world.

            • The minute Paul faced a pro boxer and not even a good one he lost. He gasses out to quickly and one of the last things you learn in boxing is defense.

Too his credit for being a YouTuber he has had a better paying career than most legit boxers.

                • I don't really care either way. I didn't watch the fight, saw about a 3 minute highlight reel in which Fury seemed to be controlling things for the most part.

One thing I will say though, when most fighters first turn pro they are fighting guys who either A. only have 2 or 3 fights under them, or B. are absolutely awful. Jake Paul's resume up to this point has been every bit as strong as most fighters who are 4, 5, 6 fights into their careers. Guys that first turn pro are either fighting guys with 1 win / 8 loss records or they are fighting guys with 1 or 2 fights under their belts who work 9 to 5 jobs and train / box on the side. Jake Paul seems to be an absolute turd of a human being, so I don't want to defend him here, but he does seem to at least take his training seriously and even though he has been fighting MMA guys up to this point, a lot of those MMA guys are probably better (or at least just as good) as the first few fights that any newly turned pro takes on..... So in that regard, I do give Paul some credit. Yeah, his fan base is incredibly annoying and I get why him headlining a PPV can rub people the wrong way. But at the end of the day, he seems to be working at the craft and his competition level up to this point hasn't been any worse than what you'd expect from a guy 6 fights into his career.

This was a fight that normally wouldn't be a televised fight. None of us would know who Tommy Fury was if his last name wasn't Fury, and none of us would know who Jake Paul was if he didn't have the YouTube celeb thing going. These guys had 14 fights between them. If their names weren't Fury and Paul, this fight would be held in a local gymnasium or or small arena with 30 people in attendance...... point is, what the heck did everyone expect? If we're going to be critical of something, let's be critical of the idiots who bought the fight or give it attention. Both guys seemed to come into the fight in good shape and gave a good effort. The fact that it wasn't a particularly high-level fight though? Well, yeah, duh.

                    • Fury won easily, he is just a more natural fighter and that's not saying much because he isn't a great one, but enough to beat Paul who didn't start training until his 20's. I didn't like all the holding but he did let his hands go and landed some good punches in combination, just don't see him ever doing much at Cruiser or Light Heavy to be honest. I was a bit stunned when I saw him celebrating like he beat an ATG though lol.
