The fight was pretty much about any fight between 2 novice boxers would be. Cong**** to them for figuring out a way to get paid more than many title contenders do. I hope they both keep boxing. Time will tell how good they really can be.

Paul’s behavior and words are super gross and his lack of distance skills and footwork led to so many clinches. It was a bit aggravating, but a good novice fight. Fury’s body does not do slick boxer things.

One thing I will say though, when most fighters first turn pro they are fighting guys who either A. only have 2 or 3 fights under them, or B. are absolutely awful. Jake Paul's resume up to this point has been every bit as strong as most fighters who are 4, 5, 6 fights into their careers. Guys that first turn pro are either fighting guys with 1 win / 8 loss records or they are fighting guys with 1 or 2 fights under their belts who work 9 to 5 jobs and train / box on the side. Jake Paul seems to be an absolute turd of a human being, so I don't want to defend him here, but he does seem to at least take his training seriously and even though he has been fighting MMA guys up to this point, a lot of those MMA guys are probably better (or at least just as good) as the first few fights that any newly turned pro takes on..... So in that regard, I do give Paul some credit. Yeah, his fan base is incredibly annoying and I get why him headlining a PPV can rub people the wrong way. But at the end of the day, he seems to be working at the craft and his competition level up to this point hasn't been any worse than what you'd expect from a guy 6 fights into his career.

This was a fight that normally wouldn't be a televised fight. None of us would know who Tommy Fury was if his last name wasn't Fury, and none of us would know who Jake Paul was if he didn't have the YouTube celeb thing going. These guys had 14 fights between them. If their names weren't Fury and Paul, this fight would be held in a local gymnasium or or small arena with 30 people in attendance...... point is, what the heck did everyone expect? If we're going to be critical of something, let's be critical of the idiots who bought the fight or give it attention. Both guys seemed to come into the fight in good shape and gave a good effort. The fact that it wasn't a particularly high-level fight though? Well, yeah, duh.
        Spot on.

I was watching this with my wife. Once in a blue moon she will watch the boxing with me. I suppose with this one she's interested in Tommy's wife and follows her on the socials and what not so she was curious and the Fury's are local.

But even she said it wasn't great. She was shocked that 2 young men in their twenties could be so gassed by round 5. But that's because she's only ever seen elite ridiculously well conditioned boxers before tonight fighting for world titles.

I'm with you - those two fought hard. Jake cant really box but he's a good athlete and is tough enough to take a shot and try and give one. Tommy is a novice pro who can move around the ring fairly nicely and has decent timing on his jab. I actually think thats the best he's looked. Before now he has looked stiff as a board when having to knock over a relative can.

I was actually impressed by Paul going all 8 completely exhausted and taking leather. If anything the kid is tough and still managed to drop Fury in the last round.

            .
In fairness there was probably a lot of nervous energy from both which added to fatigue

It’s really not a natural setting for two novices to be fighting in a fight that essentially has mainstream exposure. Especially the world they are big in, there’s so much ridicule and abuse to live with.

most boxing matches are only watched by a handful of hardcore fans or people like us on forums, so they don’t face the same level of public pressure that these two did.

I’ve seen good level pro’s gas from nervous energy on lesser stages than that, so i think they did alright really.

Yeah I agree with all this.

And actually I enjoyed it for what it was.

Jake Paul actually did look shook to me when he left his dressing room.

Bit of a messy fight, but the right man won. The ref and commentary team were awful.

That’s a pretty good take. On the flip side though, both are very used to huge mainstream exposure compared to most fighters. They’ve already been on huge platforms already.

So jake Paul said he had no excuses, after making a couple excuses. He’ll fit right in with all the other pros
