What is the difference between the swarmer boxing style and slugging boxing style ?

I know the swarmer style throws more punches but do they both fight in close range.

slugger looking for the big shots, doesnt neccessarily have to be at close range, in fact probably throwing mid range to get more torque on his punches and the long skinny types throwing from outside. look at wilder, he needs space to throw his power shots.

some guys "heavy handed" like a foreman or beterbiev dont even need space to throw their power shots, their shots are just powerful all the time, even close short punches.

Ask Uncle Google those ***in basic questions.

Already, there is no swarmer, slugger and out-boxer styles anymore. Everything is blended.

Louis had power in his short shots that can do a lot of damage.

There is some crossover because both styles are aggressive, and lots of guys have hybrid styles so don't fit perfectly into one box.

But basically a swarmer will throw more punches and give you less space to work. Look at prime Duran, he goes from being out of range to being right up close very quickly, throws lots of punches while denying the opponent the chance to land their best shots. Going further back Henry Armstrong was a great swarmer also. Even if a swarmer has hands of stone, most of their punches are not thrown full power, only some are, usually when the opponent isn't expecting it.

A slugger on the other hand sits down on their shots more, have slower feet. They usually move their head less and they don't suffocate you as much because they like to have enough distance to generate power on their own punches, even if that means the opponent can do the same. They believe in their own power and chin, they just want the opponent to stand and trade. Foreman is probably the greatest slugger of all time.

Also would say it's easier to be a swarmer when younger because it's demanding on the stamina. Chisora used to be more of a swarmer, but he doesn't have the energy for that now and is more of a slugger.

            Don’t forget

            Joe Frazier

probably the most famous swarmer ever

Frazier’s era was amazing. ATG outfighter Ali, ATG swarmer Frazier, and ATG slugger Foreman all fighting in one era

              Some the best fights

are when a boxer-puncher gets reduced to a slugger for the fight

it happens when the skill gap between the boxer-puncher and his outfighter opponent is wide

Floyd-manny perf example of an outfighter turning a boxer-puncher into a slugger

manny’s only option was to follow Floyd around the ring looking for that one big shot that could change everything

It’s peculiar how manny pac moved away from being a swarmer

see his early fights in his homeland

he’s get into close quarters to fight inside and throw everything at the opponent

By the end of their careers manny’s rivals Marquez and Floyd were better at inside fighting than manny

I haven't heard of slugger as a style per se. But being a swarmer and slugger are not the same even if they can overlap. You can swarm with great technique or poor technique, from any range, depending on your physical attributes, and you can put power behind your punches or take something off them, whatever helps you put hands consistently on the opponent. The point of a swarmer is volume and activity, but this can be achieved in many ways.

The slugger is someone who may not want to swarm an opponent but wants to land hard shots even if it means getting hit sometimes. The slugger may be able to force exchanges, pin the opponent against the ropes or land lunging or looping shots.

Like I said earlier, being a swarmed and slugger can overlap, but they're not necessarily the same thing.
