  • Comments Thread For: 'Scrappy' John Ramirez Parlays Confidence into Rapid Rise at 115 Pounds

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - Sometimes the nickname just fits. And such is certainly the case with John Ramirez. The briefest encounter with the ****sure super flyweight - who'd already lived in two countries, mastered two languages, and excelled in two sports before he'd ever laced on gloves - leaves a person forcibly struck by a straightforward manner and an unshakeable self-belief.

Scrappy is a must see/watch/view, up, and coming fighter in the lighter weight division's.
I don't know if he'll ever win a world title, but if he doesn't it won't be from a lack of trying.
He's like the human version of the Tamanian Devil, full of high voltage electric energy.
He's fighting on DAZN, 2/23/23, check out Scrappy, and tell me what you think.

Fighting 15 lbs below his "real" weight equals another weight-bully. Why do that? If you're normally 130, why not fight at that weight? OK, maybe lose 2 to 5 lbs. of fat if you're out of shape. But fighting 15 lbs. lighter? Why?

Then on fight night to "hydrate" as close as you can back to 130. It's ridiculous. Fights should have same day weigh-ins. Maybe even hit the scales before round one. Keep guys fighting guys their own size.

That said, he sounds like he could be a great fighter. But it seems patently unfair that he' fighting guys so much 'naturally' smaller than himself.
